Right, so, sorry if this is a repeat of any past posts; but I figured it was important.

Anyhow; there's this new EU Anti-Tampering shit for motorcycles banning any modifications for motorcycles by 2013 or so.
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=226750 more detail here.

But alas; there is a government petition signed against it.
I figure if we can snip this in a legal manner - or at least show enough people are against it - maybe they'll reconsider.

Anyway, here's the petition.

Yah. Hence the link. XD
I scrolled through it but couldn't see the petition link.

if its a complete repeat than ignore it or have the mods take it down.
Just figured getting the word of the petition out was important. Y'know. Wink

One assumes it's written in standard UK date nomenclature; at the time of writing, the date where I am (South London, UK) is 16/08/2011, so you've still got plenty of time to sign up.

I'd figure it was in the standard UK format.
It being a UK government website.
in the UK.
Represented by the Queen of England. Very Happy

<.< Just trying to be helpful. Geeze. Don't have to troll on me for trying to spread the word of a petition. Mr. Green

But, yeah. I hadn't seen it after a quick look, so, I figured I'd stick it up there.
It's only fair people get their say. If it fails and they bring it in anyway; guess we'll just have to have our say a little bit more, huh. Smile

The petition will change mothing. A far better action is to take part in your local demonstration ride on Sept 25th.

Well, whatever makes you feel good.

Or you could contact your MEPs and also look through the list of all UK MEPs for those on the Transport Committee.

It will likely do sweet FA, but for what it's worth, I've signed it.

Cheers,

Steve.

Is that the Transport and Tourism Committee? None of the Scottish MEPs are on it, annoyingly.

How's this? I could have gone into the different types of lunacy that each proposed ban demonstrates, but I couldn't be bothered writing something that long.

Quote:
Dear Ian Hudghton, Alyn Smith, Struan Stevenson, Catherine Stihler, George Lyon and David Martin,

I am writing to you regarding the proposed EU Type Approval and Market Surveillance Regulations.

I will not go into the specific details of all of the aspects of motorcycling that this legislation aims to make illegal as there are so many. Rather, I would like to make a few more general points.

The first is that the proposed aim of the legislation (to increase motorcycling safety) and the means by which this aim is to be achieved have no connection. That is, this legislation will not increase safety by any amount. In fact, the proposed aims and the means by which the aims are to be achieved are so disconnected that it would appear that the true aim of the legislation is other than that stated.

It appears that the real reason this legislation has been proposed is to ban motorcycling in all but name. This goal will be achieved by steadily reducing the number of riders until an actual ban in name can be effected with the minumum of protest. Motorcycling has been in a slow but steady decline for a number of years, most of which is due to the rafts of new rules and regulations that continually emanate from the EU. It would appear that this flow of regulation is now to be increased to a torrent.

However, the problem with this tactic is enforcement. Very few of the freedoms which the new legislation will make illegal are unreasonable. When reasonable freedoms are made illegal by legislation that is demonstrably pointless, or even malevolent, the legislation is ignored. In addition, people begin to question the validity of other laws. If the propsed goal of this new legislation was "to make an ass of the law", it would be a far more realisable ambition.

I know that personally I will be ignoring it if it ever becomes UK law, and I will be recommending that others do the same.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Doug97

Anyone know where Porkys Diner on the 127 is? I might be able to make it to that demo.
