My history of ARCADE driving/riding games..

Monaco GP (1979) by Sega
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lGUFQ6_I6c
I remember I played this at bowling alley when I was a kid.
It was too difficult for a kid.

TX-1 (1983) by Tatsumi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzElArDFFSo
I prefered this game to pole position.
I loved its engine note in the tunnel.

GP WORLD (1984) by Sega
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtcWwcMqNc4
Ahem.. this game was not that great..as you can see.

WEC Le Mans 24 (1986) by KONAMI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l8vYJi1OeU
It was really exciting, tough to clear the game.
It changes like Noon->Evening->Night->Morning.

Hard Drivin (1988) by Atari
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6JC-HCNcio
I was shocked at 4speed manual with H shape gauge and clutch pedal!
And kick back to steering wheel, and polygon.
Maybe the first real driving simulator.

Continental Circus (1988) by TAITO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anQjNSYzGME
There was 3D goggles in front of the face.First experience of 3D.
Crashed rival car's tyres flys to my face!
I remember I was saying "OMG that was great! OMG" in the train going home LOL.
It was so shocking experiment for me.

Desert Tank(1994) by Sega
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6NES7ynjnM
I remember Martin Marietta designed this tank driving/shooting game.
If you choose advanced course and you must stop a missile at the end.
I think quality of this game was great in 1994.

Harley Davidson & L.A. Riders(1997)by SEGA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GAxlXPo3uY
I like this game because of the town map.
There are 4 to 5 check points.
This game is simple but I could ride anywhere I wanted.

Maybe most of these are already classic games, hard to find one in arcade.

I don't know how much I spent on these games.

p.s. I'm glad if some of you post your own favorite ones.

I'd hate to think how much I spent on Hard Driving.

And Defender/Missile Command/Battlezone.

Road Rash

This stole many hours of my childhood in the 90's and part of the reason I just love the squarer sports bikes of the late 80's.

+1 on Hard Drivin'. I credit it for my leet driving skillz today.

As for bike games, 'super hang on' was made of win, especially as it had a proper bike to hang off (ironically) . Its still the only bike I've ever got my knee down on Wink

Another vote for Super Hang On. I had it for the Amstrad colour version they done. Came as a cartridge.

Not an arcade, but i loved Kick Start on the C64:

https://www.trialscentral.com/forums/uploads/post-20-1248951153.jpg

Moving forward in time a bit, Daytona USA had me hooked, i loved the way you get the cars sideways and sliding.

Daytona USA,
Destruction Derby
Road Rash 1 + 2 (Have been playing these recently with emulation)
Sega Rally (Sega Saturn)
Outrun easily my all time favourite racing game with Road Rash a close second.

I spent so much money on this as a teenager:

https://www.arcade-museum.com/images/103/1036515668.gif

My arcade driving timeline:

Pole Position
Outrunners
Daytona USA
Sega Rally
S.C.U.D Race
Initial D
Outrun 2
Wangan Midnight Tune (crap)
Battle Gear 3 (briefly)
Battle Gear 4
Club Kart
Initial D 4

I'd go through my PC and console racers but I just tried and it was taking hours, so I will leave you with three:

Nascar 1995 by Sierra - My first racing sim. Great physics for its time, except you couldn't leave the ground
Grand Prix 2 - Best racing simulation ever.
Gran Turismo - Goes without saying. Unprecedented levels of customisation and vehicle choice.

The best physics I have ever seen in a driving game have got to be from Live For Speed. I was torn between the Papyrus Racing League thing and this for online racing and this worked out a lot cheaper. I'll have to dig this out at some point and give the Scirocco, the new track and whatever else they have implemented since my absence a go.

Hard Driving. You see, I was born the year this game was made. I used to spend hours on this game on the mega drive in about 1995-1997, my next door neighbour and I couldn't even get past that loop de loop. Lol.

Thanks kawashima for bringing this childhood memory back to me, I never knew what this game was called. Genuinely thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's really fucking sad, but watching that video made my hairs on the neck stand on end and subsequently made my evening!

^This.
LFS is the only PC racing sim i play (when i can be arsed to dig out the G25).

Looking through the latest list of mods, the 'Rocco (still) doesn't appear to have been implemented yet. I'm not that bothered by that (i'm a MK2 'Rocco fanboi anyway, i've owned 4 of them), but the new track designer etc does look very interesting.
So much so, that i think i'm going to get the patch and have a go this afternoon.

Suzuka 8 hours

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4yPPwtzn8c

Played it so much that I could complete it everytime and when I watched the GP from there, I knew exactly where they were on the circuit at all times. Actually slowing down for the hairpin was the main trick Wink

GTI Club by Konami, i spent the summer of 1996 playing this relentlessly. I dread to think how much I spent on it.

When the theme park I worked in closed down I bought the arcade game along with Sega manx TT but couldnt fit them in my house so I had to sell them on again Sad
