 |
|
I have used methylated spirits many times before and its really good at getting rid of grease and gunk. White spirit works as well.
But some people say that they leave a bare sort of surface on the metal and apparently white spirits can strip the paint over a long time.
Anyone use turps?
Dad reckons paraffin is good because it has an oily texture but I can't find it anywhere for cheapish! Looking at £40 for 5 litres?!
Can anyone recommend a degreaser that is good that wont harm too much and is fairly cheap? I would rather it be chuck it on a rag sort of thing instead of dilute it in a bottle and spray it on but any recommendations would be appreciated

As above - paraffin.
Sold as lamp fuel in B+Q and homebase - also look for parasene, a brand name of paraffin. Don't get anything with a lemon scent .
In a pinch diesel isn't bad, petrol is a bit harsh but works VERY well. |

Thing is diesel, petrol and wd are all expensive haha. Well not that bad for the fuels actually if you think about it. £1.20 for a litre is good actually thinking about it. But a bit too flammable for my liking.
And Donny I think I'm missing the joke ____________________ Rusty '02 Vito Camper + CBR600F3 |

Got one of those 1ltr plant sprayers. Loaded with paraffin..rags underneath the offending area and blast away. Toothbrush to loosen.
It removes tar and burnt-on oil on exhausts pretty good.
Wash off with cheap car shampoo. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

I got a 5 litre bottle of Parasene fuel from Homebase, same as pinkyfloyd. I use an old Muc-Off bottle as a sprayer and toothbrush\washing up brush to work into heavily soiled places. Then wash off with water and use Muc-Off or similar to wash off the residue.
My only problem with paraffin and kerosene products is how stinky they are. You end up smelling like an arsonist with palsy.
For brakes, electronics or other bits that need a high flash point cleaner I bought a 5 litre can of isopropyl alchohol from fleabay. I use that to top up a little 100ml pump spray. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |
