Well aware of the get out clauses they've put in there.
Either way it's clear they don't want to, but I wouldn't be surprised if they end up going purely because of the commercial cost. ____________________ My Flickr |

| Quote: | For comparison, current levels of radiation at Mito - the town where most of the riders and teams stay during - is 86 nanosieverts or 0.086 microsieverts (µSv) an hour (measured at 1am local time on July 20th, 2011). Over the course of a six-day stay in the region (though teams will often stay for just five days), a person would receive just under 12.4 µSv of radiation, about 60% of the dose of a single chest x-ray. By comparison, radiation levels in Chemnitz, where the teams generally stay during the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, were about 100 nanosieverts, or 0.1 µSv an hour. Staying in Chemnitz for 6 days exposed the teams to 14.4 µSv of radiation. |

I'd wager background radiation levels are not the reason riders are worried. The worry are the particles that may have been released when the reactor housing exploded, and they will not be picked up by geiger counters unless they land on the things directly.
The commercial side of things has always given Rossi the hump so I expect him to avoid going at all costs and Stoner seems to be quite in touch with nature so perhaps he'll refuse too.
Will be very interesting anyhow... ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

I don't understand the hostility; I am agreeing with you that background readings are low.
However, I am inclined to agree with Gundersen (who's 6min mini-talk on YouTube I posted) with the dangers of so called 'hot particles'. For the record he has a masters in Nuclear engineering and was called as an expert witness in the Three Mile Island case.

Go home and watch it and perhaps you'll learn some more.

No hostility intended - trust me, if there is, you won't need to ask.
However, I'm not sure of the validity of this (because I'm not a nuclear scientist), although I have attempted to read some of the "official" reports - and they are mostly beyond my understanding.
Meanwhile, whilst I've heard rumours that differing views may exist (for example, from the gf of one of Nicky Hayden's pit crew), I haven't seen anything in a very official looking capacity (ie, not via YouTube, Wikipedia etc).
That's all I was getting at. |

I think his words carry far more weight than yours (no offence) or mine with regards to the possible dangers following a nuclear incident. Hence why I posted a link by him.
I believe if you watch the video you will see he quotes the relevant data for the hot particles found in lungs (Tokyo and Fukashima). Probably worth doing a bit of digging to read the actual studies if you wanted.
 |
Hot particles can be detected by Geiger Muller equipment actually, so I don't know where that information comes from
In order to have radiation, you need something to emit it. That something is what might be described as a 'hot particle'. Hence, all radiation comes from hot particles of some form or another. If it doesn't come from a hot particle, then it comes from a solid lump of radioactive material which will be ionising the atmosphere around it like crazy, hence is detectable by Geiger Muller equipment.
I strongly suspect that I'll either watch the youtube clip and declare it nonsense, or I'll watch the youtube clip and discover that Kris has completely misinterpreted it. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Wasn't that better, actually making an adult reply explaining yourself?
Anyway, the video is - as expected - completely free of actual evidence. He talks about what he found, but he doesn't actually present it for review, unlike all the reports saying it's safe. MarJay has missed fuck all that's pertinent to the discussion. I could put a video on YouTube with a load of scientific stuff I'd Googled, too. Wouldn't make me right.
Let me guess... Do you believe there were explosives in the WTC on 9/11, too? I bet you do. After all, someone on the internet said so!
