A while back my bike started running quite badly, bogging down under load, then it got worse to the point it wont go above 20-25mph.

Even in neutral it wont rev much beyond a third of throttle or so - if you try it just pops / bangs and sounds terrible. If you open the throttle too quick it dies.

It takes a few kicks to start now, although once started it idles fine. Having said that it seems to run very hot even when its only been running a couple of minutes

I have changed the ignition coil, condenser, points, checked timing and valve clearances, stripped the carb (all jets seem clear)

Anything else?

Before it started to do this I had ran it really low on petrol then put a full tank in. Could it be bad fuel?

Oh and its a 93 brazil model...

My mod2 is booked for next week too Sad

Clean out your fuel tank/strip your carb and clean that.

Check your fuel filter if you have one, also your fuel tank breather.

Hows your airbox/filter... any oil in there?

No oil in the air filter / filter housing

Its not smoking either, compression feels much the same kicking it over so im avoiding thinking about new postons etc!!

Might drain the tank then tonight and try fresh juice...

Hi there

This might be a daft question, but what state is the spark plug in, only I didn't see anything in your post regarding it Thumbs Up

Is there any possibility of an air leak somewhere (starting issue)?

All the best
Mike

Try squirting wd40/gt85/equivalent on the inlet manifolds near the engine if it revs up you got an air leak. I think its an O ring jobby for those, can see if you can just give em a nip, or if you have any silicon might be enough 'to get ya home' sort of thing.
EDIT: Just spoke to my old man, he said he had a CG once that had the same symptoms and it was a worn choke mechanism, as it revved the choke would come on, said its like a butterfly valve on them and as it was revved would just close enough to choke the engine, so replace the choke cable/have a look in the carb

Managed to sort it - turned out the float / float return spring was knackered. Replaced both and it seems to run almost like it should - still a touch juddery but the fuel is a couple of months old so hopefully fresh stuff will sort it!

Bike must have been running lean as opposed to rich!

Thanks for the replies Very Happy
