YBR125 29k Miles 2007 .
Was slipping at high revs so i have replaced clutch with one from a younger lower mileage (2009,4,000k)

Please see attached picture of plates (showing burnt metal colour) and basket (with marked indents where the plates sit)

New clutch works great but wanted your opinions on how those two things could affect the clutch.

incidentally i went through a long period of using cheap basic car oil and (without causing a long debate on the merits of car/bike oil etc!-which has been repeated many times before on this forum)... do you think this would have aided it's decline?

Thanks all

Mark

Heat marks on the clutch plates suggests it has either been slipping for a while or you have been drag racing it Wink .

I would guess that the notched clutch basket caused the plates to not move freely, sticking the clutch open and causing it to slip. The slipping then probably caused the bluing of the plates maybe warping them with heat and making the slipping effect worse. Could be a few causes though tbf.

Either way, assuming your cable and lever are well adjusted and that the new parts are in good nick you should have sorted it. Can't see the oil being a contributory factor.

Noticeable notches, but not sure if they can be felt. Assuming they can then I would agree.

All the best

yes the notches were quite bad and could be felt.
It had been slipping for a while. (Does the words YBR and drag racing belong in the same sentence?!)
Thanks chaps

it doesnt need to be slipping for a while for it to do that, think about it, its 2 metal surfaces rubbing together and at say 5k rpm (6k redline on ybr, from memory 5k rpm in top is about 50mph) there rubbing together at extremely high speed.

Ybr have very small clutches even compared to other 125's they have small clutches.

They suffer in particullar from dirty oil? the clutch has its own oil strainer (behind the clutch casing just below and to the right of the clutch basket), no this isnt there for the engine...its there for the clutch Wink, this should be removed and cleaned every 12k miles or so... if u dont you actually restrict the oils ability to drain away from the clutch plates over lubing them causing more slip- more slip more heat- more heat... faster pwned clutch plates.

As for the notches, thats fairly normal tbh, the clucth basket itself is cast from pretty poor grade metal and with alot of miles they start to wear.

Honestly its just wear and tear mate, try not to worry about it Wink Thumbs Up
