Evening all,
Just got back from a ace ride in this awesome weather!
Now when me and my mate were out we decided to keep going up a section of corners, After doing so i have noticed my tyres were wearing right on the edge!?!
here are some pics, My bike is the one with green rim tape. have taken a pic of both mine and my friends. it seems we are both taking the corners at about the same speed but i seem to be leaning right over, with knee down of corse
My question is: How far should i lean, can i lean too much or by looking at my tryes am i doing something wrong here?
The reason i want to know is because i have my first track day at rockingham next sat and i dont wanna wash out !

Could be a few things...psi..weight..suspension..line through the corner..harder on the gas coming out..maybe his body position is better so the bike is more upright in the corner???
Sure some members with more experience will add their bit.

You've still got abit of tyre left there, you can lean alot further than you think depending on the corner, when you start gridning your pegs you'll be near the limit.
one of you is hanging off more which should result in less lean angle without sacrificing much ( if any ) corner speed.
just await pics of everyones tyres now to appear

Or you may be way past it.
Leaning the bike and corner speed aren't that directly related as there's a lot of other factors - surface conditions, tyre, temperature of tyre and surface, speed, acceleration, hanging off etc.
First off, I'd advise only getting a little quicker at a time - those that suddenly try and get a super-fast pace quickly tend to crash early on in their trackday career.
As you approach the limit of cornering grip you may find the front end suddenly twitches in. It kinda feels like the front went over a stone for a second or something. This is actually the rear just sliding.
However, you may well skip that stage and go straight to what is an obvious rear end slide, with the rear noticeably moving and you ending up facing a more noticeable different direction.
It's possible to have a front end slide without trail braking, but pretty unlikely in my experience with a balanced bike.
Riding on track, early acceleration comes in to play to cause more likely problems, as does trail braking in to corners.
Pictures of bike tyres ridden on track will show more wear from the acceleration and braking than the pure cornering generally. |

i've only experienced front end slides while off the brake on the road,
except last week at cadwell coming into the mountain i was trail braking far to deep and lowsided 
does make you wonder with the whole 'hanging off' thing though, people like Mike hailwood neat as anything and still managed to win and beat the people when i thinking 'hanging off' was just coming into fashion, it must be how modern bikes / tyres are designed now to suit the riding style of modern riders :/

Your def on the edge there lol, Thats a b/s 014, i had them before the 016 and there aint too much different, That gives me a little more confidence looking at that

I had a metzeler on before the 016, loving the bridgestone. Very stick and warms up pretty quickly too!
Only problem is the tyre you see there got a big nail through it yesterday so ive a brand new one on now 
Literally took that photo on sunday so it had loads of life left too.. agh |

I dont get to the edges of my tyres on track.
I hang off a fair bit yet still corner faster/as fast as someone with their pegs down, on the edge of the tyre.
Much less of a risk of rolling off the tyre and i can get on the power harder without fear of it spitting me off. ( Been there)
