Hey all, Ive got a problem which I cant seem to fix. I Acquired a Sachs XTC 125 4 Stroke about 2 months ago with a view to fixing it and using it through winter then letting my mate learn on it. Looking at it, it looked an easy fix. It ran, but as soon as you touched the throttle It would just cut out. Part of the airbox was missing so Fair enough I thought too much air, Ill have it then just get the part for the airbox.

So, I got the bike and sure enough I obtained the part for the airbox. I fitted the airbox and the filter and sure enough the problem persisted. It happily revs up on choke, but touch the throttle and it dies. Ive stripped and cleaned the carb, Ive cleaned the (plastic) tank, replaced the airbox inlet and still the same problem.

Ive just had the carb out and ive put gasket paste all around the inlet manifold and carb, all around the airbox manifold, around the air filter join and ive put a new gasket around the air intake part of the airbox. Start it up and sure enough the problem persists. If I take the airfilter off and the air intake box off and use my hand then I can get it to rev up on the throttle but it doesnt de-celerate again. It revs to about 5-6k and then stays there. If I remove my hand it drops right down again and then when I though the throttle it cuts out Mad

So, Id like to get this bike ready for october, Ideas please guys. I could just keep stripping it and replacing parts until it works but id rather just find the problem the quick and easy way.

Welcome to my club of pain and fail Thumbs Up Smile , If you look through the old threads in workshop you`ll know that I`ve been through this very same mangle!

In the beginning once I finally got a spark and the starter motor to turn over, the damm thing would`nt start Sad .
I did`nt have acess to sonic cleaning but I did have access to high pressure air and solvents (not at the same time though Laughing ), so that`s how I cleaned my carb at first.

That was a bit better but still I could`nt get it to tick over or rev properly and it would die Evil or Very Mad
Off came the carb many times trying to get it right, cleaning it a few times made it a bit better but not right.
So new jets and a new diaphram= a bit better but still not right!
New fuel line and cleaning out the tank = a bit better.

Look at where the choke cable goes into the carb and the slider? there as mine had a whole load of nasties (strange gunk) there?.

I have also found that mine hates being on it`s sidestand and sometimes the floats will stick if it has been on the sidestand for long periods.
I now have a small piece of tube that fits the hole (there`s a screw in it) at the bottom of the float bowl.
So now if I have an issue with the carb, I put that tube in and give the carb a blow BEFORE I start to pull it apart, as sometimes it can just be a bogie in the carb causing problems and this can blow them out.

Spiders webs and earwigs in the airbox dont help matters either Smile
I also found that once the fresh new petrol got through things improved Thumbs Up .

Everyone thats owned one knows how bad they are.

I've come across the not wanting to rev thing before but usually it disappeared after about 10 mins warming up on choke.

Once you get it running right, don't leave it ouside without a cover unless you like draining the tank a lot due to water somehow making its way in there.

Could have been a great bike if it was reliable.

Will make me think twice before buying a german bike again. The only reliable part was the bit from japan!

Fixed it Very Happy

Stripped and cleaned the carb again, used 6 bar compressed air on the jets and body and now shes running pretty well.

Couple of kinks to sort out and then she'll be ready to go Very Happy

Funny that!, I seem to remember saying the same thing Smile .

Seriously? they are`nt that bad..... even a clutz like me could get one back on the road.
The top end (speed) is not all that great on mine 65mph`ish-- even 70mph a couple of times Shocked just!, but it accelerates well if you use all of the rev-range Thumbs Up .

Mine needs new clutch plates and clutch springs and I`ve ordered them.
So when that`s done, I might look into a rear sproket with a few less teeth on? we shall see Thumbs Up

Right, now she's running onto the next bit. The side stand is a bit, um, broken. When up it is in contact with the chain and rubs against it when the chain is moving. This is obviously bad and needs to be rectified, there appears to be a lot of space in the side stand bracket and im just intending to fill the gap with some washers. Does anybody else have experience of such an issue? Also, the bike leans over very far on the stand, further then id expect it too, is this common with the sachs?

The sidestand should sit pretty much on the swingarm and yes they do tend to lean quite far over.
