I'll keep this brief. I do not know how to cook anything beyond a bacon and egg sandwich.

However, being the infallible boyfriend I am, I have decided I want to cook the missus a nice meal before she goes off to Uni for her first year and before I go for my second.

Easy, no.
Problems.

She's a vegetarian. (Not through morals, she just doesn't like the taste)
She doesn't like fish.
She already eats a sh!t load of pasta, she practically lives off the stuff.

I want to cook something different.
Ideas?

Thumbs Up

If all else fails I shall just take her out to dinner.

Fry-up... Thumbs Up

Can't stand that 'not-bacon' myself but some people like it. Some nice Cumberland style veggie sausages. Fried egg and mushrooms..oatcakes with toasted cheese beans and/or tomatoes.
A drizzle of HP sauce. (for the lady)
Cup of strong Tea.

Pop yer finger up...... and that's the end to a perfect meal

If you're really awful, eton mess (whipped cream, strawberrys, raspberries if you're fancy) mixed up with broken meringue is a piece of piss.

See if you can grab yourself a copy of 'how to cheat at cooking' by delia, tonnes of pretty easy recipes.

I know you said she doesn't like the taste of meat in itself (cue a dirty joke) but does she like substitutes, such as Quorn etc? That could open up possibilities, and it does taste much different to meat anyway, though people try to claim it doesn't. You could then make her some good substitue, like a pie, or bolognese etc.

I find this site a boon for quick and easy desserts. Slap the headphones on and get cooking. Laughing

I've lived with two vegetarians. Eventually, they both 1) ate a bacon sandwich which 2) gave them the strength to decide that they'd been living in denial and were actually gayers.

Hypothesis, confirmation. Your "missus" is going to get more tongue than an anteater's convention. Dance!

Ahem.

Echo the "stir fry ftw". Most of it is prep, and a basic sweet and sour / hot and sour / sweet and spicy / sweet lemon etc sauce is dead easy to make.

Is she watching you cook? If not, go to the local chinese, freeze a veggie stir fry, wack in the pan before she gets in, have it piping hot - done deal. Kitchen smells of cooking, stuff in the sink, the perfect crime.

Ok I think I'm going to go for this Stir Fry...

Yeah...

Confused

EDIT* I'm already put off.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/vegetarianstirfrynoo_92400

Definitely like the noodle option, we love chinese. Maybe some spice or sweet and sour.

I think I could bare the vegetables for one meal.

Look up the recipe for goi cuon (summer rolls) vietnamese rice paper rolls with noodles & veg in for starters.

I've had excellent results from recipes here:

Tom Yam is ace, but a bit bland with just mushrooms. The tofu one is good.

I can choke down tofu with the right sauce.

A basic "sweet and..." sauce is dead simple. Dissolve some sugar - quite a lot of sugar, to be honest - in near boiling water then add your choice of the following:

Tomato puree; rice wine vinegar; powdered ginger; soy sauce; chilli powder or cayenne pepper; shredded lemon or orange rind, plus juice.

Then get some cornflour, add a dash of cold water to it, mix to a paste and stir in while bringing briefly to the boil. Add gradually until you've got the desired constituency.

Pour over veggies and proper food stir fried in hot oil - add some sesame oil, maybe some ginger for bonus points - chuck in cooked noodles or serve with sticky rice, receive blowjob appreciation from the missus.

Ghetto Karma. Essentially, you're wasting your time on Ms No-I-Couldn't-Possibly. Give it a year or a decade, you'll want someone who knows how to enjoy herself.

Risotto is a faily hearty meal that's difficult to get wrong and can be made vegetarian. It benefits from having a bit of bacon in it but you'll have to do without. Basically, rice, onion, white wine, vegetable stock, peas, garlic, herbs etc assembled in the correct way - add a bit of butter at the end to give it a sheen, or if it seems a bit watery some Philadelphia.

Plenty of recipes on t'internet but I can put one together if you need it.

^^^Where's the fun in that? Razz

During those 1st few times when i've cooked a special meal for the lady i've resorted to asking family. Once when i was 17 i wanted to make an impression but had the kitchen skills of a maggot. I was told to make macaroni cheese and cauliflower.....the bastards.
Do you know what happens an hour after macaroni and cauliflower....I'll let your imagination finish off my evening.

what about a veggie stew? basically cut up as many vegetables as you can think of, throw it it a slow cooker with some water, add some veggie gravy, serve in a giant yorkshire pudding with plenty of hendersons relish.

Gradually sneak meat into her food until one day she has to cook for herself and can't quite get it right, she gets meat withdrawal symptoms and tries eating anything and everything until she finds what she is lacking. She stumbles upon the bacon, looks at it's pink and white luxuriousness and decides to give it a shot...

Pan is on the hob, bacon out of the packet, with a quick sizzle, two very thick slices of white bloomer and some HP sauce she is in food ecstasy. She proceeds to try every meat under the sun until eventually she becomes entirely carnivorous and can no longer function as a stable member of society. She roams the streets with a camping stove and a pitchfork mopping up any small animal she can find. First it's birds, squirrels and rats, then cats and dogs, finally it is small children and midgets until when she is finally brought to justice she no longer even resembles a human...

Of course none of this will matter because you would have dumped her when she got fat from the bacon.

Or just cook her a steak. The Quorn marketing board are always banging on about it being exactly like meat so she shouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Gnocci is really easy but tastes good. It's basically potato so good with a simple tomato sauce and cheese.

If you can get away with spicey, try https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7732/pumpkin-curry-with-chickpeas
