Hi there, need your help!
Today I took my bike to my mate to replace a K&N air filter with the original stock one.
Removed everything, fit the filter. Gave it a start-up and started but cut out within me letting the throttle go.
Started it again and gave it a test run. Cuts out after I let go of the throttle. Being an idiot I hammer on the throttle and the electric start in attempt of rescuing it. Use up all of the battery.
Took it back apart, put original filter back on, again nothing.
We cleaned the spark plug, changed battery and tried to start it again but while we held up the fuel tank (being told about the kinks in fuel pipe) STILL NOTHING!!
Please help ____________________ I cook food... and ride a bike... great! |

Did you really feel the need to post this twice?
ANYWAY, when you fit a K&N filter you have to Upjet. If your sure you didn't touch the carb, put back the original air filter and charge the battery. It may just be that it doesn't have enough power to spark.
You could try bumping it and it may work depending on how much battery is left for the CDI. ____________________ Former: Derbi GP1 50, Sachs XTC 125, Suzuki GSXR 400 GK73A, Kawasaki ZX7R, Suzuki DR250, Yamaha RD350

Didnt know how to delete the other one
We didnt touch the carb at all.
I do believe this is the case.(battery)
Just bumped it this morning, it started to kick in but as soon as i let go off the throttle it kicked out.
And how does the CDI unit work?
Can u bump start with a dead battery?

Being 05 its carbed.
Last owner put a different exhaust on it by any chance? With the K&N it should have been jetted slightly differently.
Does it run if you put the choke on? Yes you can bump these bikes with a dead battery |

No everything was and still is standard, untill I put this air filter in.
I've tried bumping it but no look.
I'm just going to take it to a garage.
Thanks anyway ____________________ I cook food... and ride a bike... great! |

It's likely to be either air flow or petrol which has been blocked, it may be worth tracing your steps back performing what you did again checking that you haven't blocked anything and that the air filter fitted was fitted correctly.
When you cleaned the plug was it wet with petrol or smelled strongly of petrol, if not there's no fuel getting through?
Check the back of the air box for one of these too, he could have slipped in while your wern't watching.

Retraced my steps several times, still no luck.
As for the plug, it did smell of petrol, fuel and air is deffinately going through. Probally just the spark plug.
Any way i've got someone picking it up to fit all new parts, service and sort this problem out.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. ____________________ I cook food... and ride a bike... great! |

If you take it to a garage, you'd better lube yourself up first. They don't charge any less for working on a 125, and when they see L plates and hear "fix it mister, fix it fix it fix it", watch for the £££ signs in their eyes.

"Everything" is a big place; what exactly did you take off?
If you don't know, then how can you be sure that you put everything back on? In particular, are you missing a vacuum hose? If you're not sure, a Haynes manual will cost a lot less than a garage visit.
Not to be funny, but is there plenty of fuel in the tank, and is the fuel tap set to on?
What colour was the plug?
From the symptoms, and after ruling out vacuum hoses, I'd suspect a clogged idle jet or a sticky float, unrelated to the air filter - weirder co-incidences have happened. Remember, this is what Mr Garage is going to check anyway, so you might as well have a go yourself. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Im aware of that my friend, but unfortunately it's my mother that insists on having a proper mechanic sort it out. (Remembering i'm coming up to my 18th birthday)
I meant all the bolts to get to the air filter.
Im not sure what the colour was and I admit, I have no idea what they are ____________________ I cook food... and ride a bike... great! |

Have you tried adjusting the mixture on the carb?
If you didn't upjet, you'd have had to have richened the mix to make it run right... Right?
Just stabbing in the dark here. |
