Hi All,

I'd been riding for about a week, and had a slight crash. It was my fault and rode into the back of somebody doing an emergency stop. I bounced off his bumper fell on the floor and dropped my bike Sad
I'm ok (only 3 cracked ribs) but my bike took a bit of a beating. I cracked 3 bits of plastic (which I'll probably leave broken) and bent some metal. The left hand foot rest, gear shifter, clutch lever, clutch lever housing, and wing mirror. Oh and indicator are broken.
As the gear shifter was bent down and under, it was unusable. And, as the RAC cover that evil MCE supplied me with was rubbish, I had no choice but to ride on. It was stuck in 3rd which was quite fun, especially pulling away at lights..I rode to a friends house about 10 miles away like this (home was about 25 miles)
So, using some mole grips and a bit of force I bent it back out so I could get home. I've since purchased the new bits but have noticed an issue shifting from 2nd to 3rd. (not fitted the new bits yet)
Basically, when I tap the shifter up to 3rd, nothing happens, this is followed by an over rev and few bounces off the limiter. This is happening because it hasn't changed, then I try again wiggle it a bit and it shifts.
So is this problem deeper than the shifter? Have I busted the gear box? If so...how much? How hard to fix? etc..

Thanks for any advice

FJ

Oh, It's a Honda CBR125 R W7

Sounds like the impact has bent the shaft/selector fork(s) a touch, only way is to have a look. Don't know anything about the bike, how hard/easy it will be to get in and check sorry.

Thanks. I'm going to try and strip down as much as I can on the weekend, and see how I get on.
I'm currently waiting on a haynes manual to be delivered.

Then you're worrying prematurely. Change anything that you're going to change, get it all straight and adjusted on the outside, then see if it's still doing it. From my extensive experience (one incident Shifty) the gear shift is quite soft and easily bent on the CBR, which is a good thing, as it's less likely to have damaged anything internally.

Thanks. I think this is what I wanted to hear.
I'll let you all know how I get on, I've booked a friend in for Saturday morning to help me out..Might fit a new chain and sprokets too.

You bent the clutch lever, this could have put it out of adjustment and giving you problems changing gear.

To sort that, once I've put the new lever on, do you think I need to replace the clutch cable too?

Very unlikely, unless you've stretched it. Just be sure to adjust it so that there's a small amount of slack at the lever before it starts pulling on the cable.

Ok, that's good news. Thanks

Hi All,

I've put the new parts on, and all seems to be OK. Gear changes actually seem smoother now as well.

Thanks for all of your help
