Posted: 11:25 - 09 Sep 2011 Post subject: Sold a bike, 2 days later buyer not happy..... advice |
 |
|
So I sold my Hornet the other day. Like a twat through eBay, I'd put it up through "buy-it-now or best offer" basis. I should have gone with classified I know but it's too late now.
Anyway, guy messages me, we haggle, agree on a price, he pays deposit into my account, then comes to collect the bike on Tuesday. Gives it a good looking over, tested gears, suspension etc says yeah ok, hands over the cash, fills out the paperwork, and rides it off into the sunset.
Then this morning I get this message:
| Quote: | Hi sorry to have to email you , but too be honest , im unhappy with a few things on the bike , we have only had the bike two days and the clutch has gone so ive had too buy a new one , the clutch cable is at its limit so thats had to be replaced , and ive got the bike stripped down and every panel on the bike is cracked , this is now being repaiered aswell , too be honest all this wasent listed , and im now picking up the bill |
This is complete and utter horseshit for a start, I've never had any issues with the clutch, and as for panels being cracked - a serious WTF moment. So it'd be a real funny coincidence if these problems all happened once it was sold, I message them back pretty much saying as such and said if the clutch has gone it's because of the way it's been ridden. The thing about the panels being cracked makes me think they might have binned it.
I get this back
| Quote: | My partner has been riding bikes for 20 years , and before this owned an R1 and dzr 400, so hes aware of how to ride , the bike is now off the road , while i wait for the clutch to be fitted , this isint what i expected when i brought the bike , oh and the stand has had to be repaired , i take owening a bike very seriouly and the condition aswell , im sorry but have no option but to open an not as discribed case as ive owned the bike two days and its in the garage being repaired |
So now they are adding in other problems i.e the stand. Now I'm seriously thinking what the absolute fuck? What the hell have they done to the stand, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it? I message back saying I suggest you change mechanic as they are taking you for a wally. I also asked what they propose as a solution to the issue, just to see where they are trying to go with this.
If they open up a dispute, then from what I can gather eBay will 99% rule in their favour irrespective of the facts. Despite the £200 deposit, the rest was paid in cash, but since my ebay is linked with my paypal account, I'm thinking this could mean that paypal ends up refunding them the full amount, leaving me a good £1000 down and bikeless.
Never been in the situation before, I'm kicking myself for not putting it as classified, but other than that what are my options? Advise anybody?

You're a mug for even replying to the twat.
I had this once when I sold the 9R. Guy phones me up hours later and claims he's not a happy bunny as the chain snapped on the way home. My response? "Sold as seen chum".
Fucking cocksucker. Buyer beware - he checked the condition before handing over the moolah. Too late to start checking it now mmkay! If being cautious, transfer any money from paypal to your bank account now, then remove the direct debit through online banking.
I hate cretins like this and wish you the best of luck, have you got any recent pictures of your bike? perhaps the ones that you put on ebay? are they a decent resolution? if his pictures look wildly different to the ones you took to sell it then chances are he's broke it.
As above though, it's sold as seen. Him saying a clutch is faulty that's got you around for years is horseshit, it wouldn't suddenly go on him and for cracked panels/sidestand issues etc, just screams of blagger.
I can't see why you'd buy a fully functional bike and immediately proceed to strip it to pieces with no mechanical knowhow. You'd at least ride the thing for a bit, find out it's problems and form a plan of what does/doesn't need doing. The guy sounds like a knob so hopefully you'll do ok.
If you have his postal address and have the use of a cat ordog you know what to do ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11

Lol christ it gets better:
| Quote: | As for the stand when we were taking the bike apart we noticed that the bike was leaning over quite abit , when we looked at it , the bottom part of the stand fell off , so now its been repaired and has been painted , and back on the bike , wasent happy when the bike was brought back and the bike was stripped to sort out the issues that the bike had already got that we knew about , the panels were took off and the cracks in most of the panels was unbeliveable to what you had listed no wonder you dropped the price so quick , and the bike is at a garage called QB BIKES , to be checked over and they are willing to say on paper that the clutch was shot before we brought it , i want the price of the clutch back , as for the panels they are taking pictures to send to you , the problems this bike has got can be sorted , and put right but i shouldnt have to be doing this as ive only owned the bike 2 days its now up to you |
So apparently sidestands can disintegrate by the mere act of observation.
Whats the prescription then? Ignore them from here on? Send a quick response saying sorry mate, sold as seen etc?
Thing is this guys only about 8-9 miles away, so I'm anticipating comebacks and possible bloodshed, cunts seen my garage as well so I'm going to be paranoid about my other bikes safety. FFS, this was half the reason I wanted to P/X with a dealer to avoid all this sort of shit, fucking arseholes.

This is what I'm thinking, I'll just ignore everything from here on and keep a few weapons strategically placed around the house and garage for the next few weeks. Next time I'll just take the damn thing to a dealer and accept whatever they offer, getting paid peanuts is still better than having to deal with this sort of shite.

There a chancer trying it on theres no way in hell they will turn up in person, the worst l had was a few snotty letters in the post threating legal action with the whole "your have 14 days before court action etc" they were a complete bluff complete with pages printed and highlighted off the citizen advice bureau funny to read though. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

if they didn't buy it now thru ebay then it has nothing to do with ebay anyway.
I recon somebody either has some broken panels already and wants new ones for nothing or they think they can get an easy couple of quid back. |
Clicked BIN on ebay, but aside from the 200 paid to paypal as deposit, the rest was paid in cash. I've also marked "Payment Received" on my seller page.

You're right to ignore him, guy's clearly a twat.
