Good morning all.

I am trying to replace the battery on the GS and I can't get the seat open.

The catch is broke , so using the key does nothing. Is there any other way of getting it off?

Coat hanger and hook it over the release.

It will be trial and error.

Near the rear of the seat, you might be able to lift the seat a fraction and see it..

Can't seem to see it. Any ideas on what it looks like?

I would have thought there would have been some bolts that allow you to take the rear plastics off...

With a cable linking it to the seat release lock.

So it is the thing I've been attacking for a while.

Cheers for the help. I shall keep trying.

Like Mr Clarkson once said 'if you believe something will happen, it will happen '

It gets easier with experience of doing it..

It is the cable that goes from the above image that you need to hook and then give it a tug (while you lift the seat). Thumbs Up

So there should be a cable coming off that unit? The cable that is attached to the key unit is still attached to the key unit, and it is the other end where it has come off...

Yes, there should be a cable coming from the above unit.

It might not have come off, it may just be a little seized.

If it has come off, then you will have a problem.

Check this ebay link out:

I can't see any cable coming from it. I can only just about make out a little bit of gold from the unit. Could it be hidden, or would the cable be easy enough to see?

That's the cable which is still attached to the key end, and not the unit...

The cable will not be very visable. check the ebay link above, as that shows you were the cable is attached onto the release mechanism.

Yea see the above edit, that's the cable that is attached to the key end, and is freely dangling around

Yikes, the cable has broke or come loose from the release mechanism.

If that is the case then I don't know if it is possible to get to the release mechanism without forcing the seat off.

Hopefully someone else may be able to help.

Bollocks.

Is there any way of taking the whole seat unit off by removing bolts underneath?

You can force it off.. its literally a lipped piece of metal.

I got mine off by removing the half snapped side panel...

You should be able to lift it enough at the rear without breaking it, enough to get a screwdriver in there and nip the catch open.

Hey Paddy,

Care to elaborate on all that. I can force the rear of the seat up a tiny bit. But where is the catch I need to get to.

In the ebay link I provided, the cable attaches to a slide release.

You will need to force the seat up far enough for you to get a screwdriver onto the slide release and move the release to the left (when stood behind the bike).
