Why would I want to steal your bike when I've got lots like it which I've nicked already and all I needed to be able to shift them was a different number plate of a Comet 125. Razz

It's just Ste's way of trying to help you mate. It's often good practice to hide/cover up your registration in photos that you display on the information superhighway. This also applies to other peoples' bikes that you may happen to take snaps of.

To be fair ste, you could go to a show room and do the same thing Smile.

Best practice, but not exactly a major issue. Now, if he was pissing on a picture of the queen while riding the bike without a helmet and then signed the photo there might be cause for him to blur up the numberplate Razz.

/me quitely resists mention the expensive new 125 so as not to cause offense

I dunno why people make such a big thing of covering up plates in pictures. Fair enough, I've covered mine up in the past, but thinking about it, whats the point. You ride it everyday and show the plate to thousands of people, yet you're scared to show it to a few hundred who look at the forum. Overrated in my opinion.

Yes, I agree that it is overrated, and I'm sure that the chances of getting successfully prosecuted (or whatever) for someone elses' malicous acts are slim...however, I disagree with your point about about the general public seeing the registration, and "a few hundred forum members".

As far as I'm concerned, it's not about numbers, but the fact that there is an accessible photograph of the registration and bike on the internet. Ok, sure, random people (or sometimes not so random) can take pictures of your bike, but that's a different matter.

Also, wasn't there this thing about going to the DVLA with £25 (or something), and they'll be able to give you the details (i.e. address etc) of the person registered to a certain number plate?

Well it is only 2 days old, and for some reason it looks cleaner in the pictures than it actually is. Confused

Ok Tin I see your point. It's basically a case of you've nothing to lose by hiding it, but there's a slim chance something could happen if you don't?!. Anyways, I'm pissed so I am gonna go to bed and see what sort of crap I have been posting when I get home from work tomorrow Smile

People go from one extreme to the other https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=31903

If a bike theif is after a specific bike, he can brosw this forum and bike picture websites until he finds one that matches his order. Take the number plate details and get the address from the DVLA, browse a few posts for any details on the security, where the bike is locked up - or if they are posting about going on holiday etc..

Couple of seconds to blank off the plate, well worth it if you asked me for my opinion.

Nice bike btw and sorry for high jacking your thread malb Thumbs Up

Exactly Hustler, you don't even need special Photograph editors like Photoshop a simple spray over in Paint can do the job, just as good. Thumbs Up

Just remember that once you have altered a picture, change the filename. If you do not, then the thumbnail will always show the undoctored picture. This is definitely true in photoshop.
