for ice cream!

This is a photo of the sightglass on my ZZR600E. Can anyone confirm that is indeed coolant that is in there?

Does this mean the headgasket is gone?

The bike went down on it's side a few days ago. An oil change was done a few weeks ago and there wasn't any of that before. It was just your standard black oil up to the correct level.

Is it possible for coolant to leak into the engine when a bike is dropped on it's side?

get some radiator stop leak chuck it in,
get the bike to temp, then dump that oil/sludge

hopefully its just a wee pin hole in the gasket, which the stop leak should sort,

I believe last time you stopped at a garage you put the oil and milkshake in the wrong holes. I'd visit a doctor if i were you.

No wonder I've been having a bad case of the benzene ring. Razz

Is radweld a good enough substitute? My mate has some I can use.

On its right side?

Can't see how dropping a bike would make the head gasket leak but what about the water pump mechanical seal? Good chance the water pump cover would have touched down if it went over to the right.

It went over to the left (the water pump is on the left side of a zzr 600).

I'm really hoping this is what happened. I'll have a look at it and see if I can see damage.

I had the creamy window a couple of times on my gsxr, turns out it was because I was only commuting short distances, twice a day, and the engine wasn't getting up to temp properly. Apparently this can cause condensation, over time which causes the mayo type substance.

Someone else will probably be able to explain it better than I, if its not completely wrong.

Cheers

This is the inside of my clutch case and you can clearly see the spunk that I was seeing in the sightglass.

and a photo of all of the oil I could pour out of the clutch case.

that looks like contamination, either water in the coolant or someone's been jizzing in your oil filler.

What do I do about it?

Do I just drain it and replace the oil and replace the oil filter and see what happens?

That's a fairly small quantity of mayo. I'd have expected more if there was a significant coolant leak. Could just be condensation.

If it was me, I'd fill it back up with some cheap and cheerful oil and go for a decent run, keeping an eye on the temperature and coolant level. If there is a leak, you'll get more mayo. If it was condensation, you wont.

To give you an idea, this is the crankcase breather catch can off my Enfield. This is an AIR COOLED bike. There is no coolant, that mayo is purely from combustion gasses inside the engine. Now imagine how much you'd get from a coolant leak.

thanks stinkwheel. That has put my mind at ease a bit. The clutch cover gasket needs replaced and that is the cover which is pictured with the gooey mess on it. Do you think I should replace this and hope that it is rainwater that has got in from this side?

Thanks again.

-David.

Maybe not even rainwater. You could easily get that much mayo from condensation inside the crankcases.

The gasket will need replacing anyway and costs nothing if you have access to an empty cornflakes packet, a hammer and a pair of scissors.

Just to add, my experince with Vmaxii. Short journeys tend to make that mayo stuff. It's always a worry to see that stuff. It's much worse if you fit clear engine cases. Sometimes it's better not to know what's going on inside Surprised

I'd take Hmmmnz advise as a first step Karma he's usually right Karma

Thanks a lot for your help stinkwheel. I actually have a new clutch gasket but I was putting off fitting it because I also need new clutch plates but couldn't afford them.

At this point I'll put the new clutch gasket on and drain the horrible oil. Then I'll do as you said and take it for a decent run and hope for the best. Thank you all for your help. I will let you know how I get on. Thumbs Up
