Is it worth changing my brake lines to braided? If yes race or standard 3 cable?
Thanks

Hi

Depends on the condition of the hoses on there. Main advantage is that it forces you to bleed the brakes properly.

As to 2 hose or 3 hose, makes no difference other than cost. 2 hose kits are cheaper, but the only reason they are referred to as race style is because some race rules do no permit the brake hoses to split below the bottom yoke.

All the best

Keith

You'll get much better results from servicing your callipers and fitting new pads, seals, fluid and properly bleeding the system. I'd only fit braided hoses if the hoses there now are perished.

Are the original hoses still on it?

The fazer is the same age and the brakes feel insanely better with braided hoses - you could feel the old ones expanding when you pulled the lever.

Shocked can't wait to swap um on mine

Do it. mine felt like they were in desparate need of bleeding (despite having about a litre of fluid through them over the course of 2 or 3 weeks. Still stopped, but new hoses are like night and day.

I upgraded mine from the originals on a 1999 bike. Probably the best thing I have done to the bike. I have 2 lines from the front master cylinder and they do make a big difference. I also done the rear.

I'm guessing on newer bikes the difference isnt as noticable but after 12 years on the bike the OEM parts were due replacement anyways.

Not so sure. Changed some on the GPZ500 we had that were 18 years old. Made no difference. Think a hell of a lot comes down to the particular lines and how well bled the system is. Charlottes 900 Thunderbird has braided lines as stock and the brakes regularly go spongy. Problem there is the twin pot sliding calipers that need a regular strip down and clean (which is a doddle of a job on those calipers, nice thing about sliding calipers).

A few years ago I measured how much the outside of the hoses of a few of the bikes expanded when pulling the lever hard. Ones that expanded the most were the braided lines on the Triumph. The (at the time) 13 year old rubber lines on the RS125 expanded nothing like as much.

Either way, if you change them it is very important to make sure you route them to avoid rubbing on anything. Braided steel hoses will wear through and damage things fairly easily, and also as they do not have a thick rubber protective covering they are more easily damaged (then this happens).

All the best

Keith

If I was an honest man I would say that I fitted braided lines because the originals looped over a lot and made bleeding a pain in the ass.

However I am not so instead I will say they do make quite a nice difference to the feel of the brakes and that this is the sole reason I replaced my rubber hoses with rusty fittings for some shiny braided ones.

I got braided purely down to price, were going cheap on ebay.

Cant really tell if there is a difference, I was practically riding without front pads before... so unsure if braking has been significantly improved Laughing
