Ratchet straps

Has anyone used pound land ratchet straps to secure a bike to a trailer?

I suspect they are the same as the cheap ones on eBay but cheaper, although would be good to get some recommendations in case they are pap.

Test one to destruction and you'll be able to tell if you're confident in their ability to hold your bike. I've found that the cheap ones have very strong straps but the ratchet's deform under load.

I used 2 of them to get my 2nd CLR125 home on a trailer.

Mmmm was a 15 minute journey, they lasted. They were helped with 2 pretty heavy duty ones.

Cheap ones were across the seat in the centre and bottom yoke. Heavier ones were rear and top yoke.

Do you really trust your bike to pound land ratchet straps?

Jesus. Spend £40 on some just to be safe. You wont regret it.

(Unless the bike is a shitter, in which case Meh.)

Having had a cheap strap snap letting a bike fall over on a trailer I wouldn't risk it niw.

I have shed full (that I've aquired) of heavy duty straps for securing loads on trucks.
Having used these regularly I wouldn't use anything less to secure my pride and joy to a trailer

Good point, I may buy some heavy duty for upfront and some cheap ones to use on the rear of the bike.

I actually need enough straps to secure 3 bikes, so if they are £40 a pair for decent ones that starts getting very expensive!

but they will be a lot nicer quality and will last alot longer

EDIT: btw the tails are long so you only need say 3 ratchets to one tail

More than that, but if one snaps then the bike can move backwards / forwards releasing tension on another.

Also, a strap from the trailer, hard over the seat and back to the other side of the trailer is pretty much useless.

I don't know where you are getting quoted £40 a pair but you are being mugged. 1000lbs minimum breaking strian should be up to the job. In fact I know they are up to the job as I use them.
