I did one a while ago, with most stuff that would help you relocate..

This one is to get info on how best to actually move.

Where to look (I currently am looking), what to look for and how to get the best options available.

Might sound common sense, but there's options which are a little annoying, like advertisers putting 'bedsit' rather than flat.

E.G, I'm looking for another 1 bed flat with own/private kitchen and bathroom for about ~£300PCM.

I'd stretch this for an 'ok' place, just means I work weekends to pay for my independance once again, not too attractive but on minimum wage but what's a man to do?

So, in my results I don't want options thrown at me for a student bedsit where other people get up and roam around a shared house in their underwear then lock me out the bathroom at 7 in a morning for an hour.

I want my 'own' place, reletavily cheap that gives me time at leisure to do my thing. I'd share a nice place with nice people but you neve what you're lumped with until it's too late.

To my mind;

Bedsit is a pokey room in a building with extensions for a bathroom and kitchen (often shared).

Flat is a few rooms within a building but bathroom, living room, bedroom and kitchen are seperate.

House, is a house Laughing - shared house is like a bedsit, you get a room in a communal house and while it has it's benefits, it has it's dis-advantages.

I'm looking for a flat. Council one I moved from was a pukka flat, every room was split off from a hallway and was a £75p/w jobby.

I need somewhere for a car and a bike, this limits my choice somewhat so make sure any place you look at has options for either. Local parking, is there a shed/garage with the place? Residency/parking bay permit? (i strongly dis-approve of the ones the local counsil 'sell', should be fookin well free to park outside a non-city-centre house).

Where to look??
I've found gumtree to be useless.
I've found rightmove.co.uk to be, only-a-little-bit-helpful.
I've found primelocation.com to be ok, help they send you emails matching your search citeria.

Deposit/references, many never mention it but ask you such when viewing, suppose it's better to have these ready in advance so it keeps you from losing out on a good deal.

Location, if a place has made the shortlist it must meet travel etc requirements, but what about the neighbours? not sure there's way to judge them (as per housemates) until it's too late.

Further to this, the previous related thread which would be the next steps is here:

Go to local lettings agents and tell them what you want.

Many of them are idiots but sometimes you find a good one, and they'll know what's in the pipeline and what hasn't been put on websites yet. The last lot I used were excellent and put lots of effort into finding what I wanted.

I thought this was a thread you wanted to be moved Wink.

Again, if you're asking a question, 'Dear Auntie BCF' is the place to go Smile.

Anyway, www.globrix.com I generally find pretty good. It has listings for sales, renting and house shares. I like the configuration and viewing options (mostly used when I was looking to buy, though did also use a bit for renting a room.)

Laughing Laughing

This about actually moving, rather than titled as a sarcastic jab at your earlier error. Razz
