Bandit 400 Earth/Ground Point?

So a while back I found that there are two wires that I labelled that go to the battery. Now I've been rebuilding it I have three wires left to attach. Battery positive, battery negative and, err ... battery negative.

One is quite long so I am thinking its an earth but why would I label it as a battery negative? I'm guessing the shorter negative is for the battery as is the short positive but anybody got any idea where this wire goes or where the earth point is?

If anyone has a bandit 400, can you shed some light please

right from what i could see there was 2 wires going to the battery negative terminal (both crimped together in the square block that screws to the battery terminal)

tried to follow both wires, one went into the main relay and the other from what i could see disapeared into the loom.

as foor the pics, sorry i have built it all back together now lol plus my fones camera is pretty rubbish anyways

I cant help much but if you have a wiring diagram for the bike it should be quite obvious which wires go where. There may be one in the manuals section in this forum

I've got a manual pdf for it which is helpful but I'm shit with wiring diagrams. If I upload it, would one of you be able to interpret it for me?

And bombom, yeah I have those wires. One is short so I imagine that is the one you are on about that disappears.

The other one I have that I don't know what does is long. Now that is labelled battery negative but is quite long. But what I am thinking is does it go to the battery and then back into the loom then to the main relay (do you mean starter relay, indicator relay, starter motor, regulator? )

That a good theory?

I mean I want to try and work it out before but if worst comes to worst, I'll just wire it up and the worst thing that can happen is it will blow a fuse, right?

But it had electrical problems so I want to limit the amount of things it could be, for instance just a component, rather than this random wire as well.

Hey man, just had a read, one will be the frame earth and the other will be loom earth. it alos possible that an extra wire has been added as a feed for the reg/rec if there were charging issues

i got a PDF manual but it takes an eternity to upload. If you want to to limit any issues that may arrise, unplug everything (specially the ingnition controller). once confirmed not to blow then plug each thing in one at a time swithcing the ignition on and off between each until everything is plugged in - simple fault finding can be used ot avoid excess damage in cases like this

And never tried that before. I'll just plug everything in and see if it starts, then I'll try eliminating problems one by one.

Buying a new reg/rec and battery anyway so hope that sorts out any issues.

Yeh that was a scan of the manual i have, i had completely forgotten about the PDF on my array..

and i would try only connect what need to be first, so the starter and relay, ignition switch, ignition controller and the right hand switch gear - that all you need, once you know that works do the rest on at a time testing as you go

well the ideal situation would be to have labelled and photographed it before taking it apart. and i can garantee that no one can tell you were it goes , they may be able to hazard a gues.

but by the sound of thing you havent don much work on bikes in the past. like i said you have to have a wire attatched to the frame as there ae many idems that ground through the frame.

oh and most people wont even hazard a gues with the bike in front of them. and you havent posted a pick like previously requested si its impossible to even think about guessing

Can you trace the wire to where it comes from?

It disappers into the loom and I don't fancy breaking it all apart :/

well if its definatly and earth, just bolt to the frame, use the reg/rec bolt of you like - that if its definatly and earth. like i said the frame should be earth to the negative terminal of the battery.

this is a simple problem that any budding engineer/bike tech would be able to solve fairly easily. along with all the documantation you made when taking the thing apart

one is a frame earth, the one thats not black with a white stripe. Black with a whipe stripe / other / i expect the longer one is the earth for the lighting system as the b/w goes to all the lights aswell as the speedometer.

Edit: so one goes to an earth on the frame the other goes to a black wire with white strip(it says tracer)which should be loose somewhere around the battery i'd expect.
