(The film review site)
Is it just me or are they really miserable on there? I usually have a quick check on IMDB and there when I want to watch a film, I just use it as a guideline. Almost all the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are so negative ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Rotten Tomatoes has no tolerance to plain good 'switch off the brain' films either. Just cause blowing stuff up isn't classic literature, doesn't mean it makes bad or unsuccessful films.
I used to like all the old Arnie stuff |

Fuck reading reviews on any site or in any newspaper.
The best indicator of whether a film is decent or not is to simply go on IMDB and look at the overall rating, if it's really shit (1-4/10) and 4000 people agree, the chances are it's going to be shit, if it's floating around 5-7/10 then it's probably worth a watch with a slight risk it's going to be cack because evidently it's not going to be everyones cup of tea, 8/10 and above and you can be pretty sure it's going to be a good film, providing it's remotely in your viewing interests to begin with.
To be honest these film critics who get so much praise for slating other peoples work....well hows about you go out and make a better fucking movie to show them how it's done since you seem to be such a fucking expert? Oh wait, you can't, because you think being a fat cunt sat watching films all day makes you an expert on the subject when in actual fact it doesn't.
I've found the film reviews in the Metro and Daily mail are the worst, unless it's some period drama about how some slag in the 16th century sucked off the stable boy to get away from her abusive rich husband, they rate them as total shit, when I've watched the same films and been thoroughly entertained, as has anyone else that's watched the films.
Film critics, what a bunch of useless humans.

I posted this in a similar thread a while back. There is a website called Movie Lens which lets you sign up, rate some movies from a list and then it begins to recommend films you'd like. Seems to work quite well and Bonny tried it when I posted up last time and said how impressed he was. ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.

EFA.
I do disagree that it is necessary for critics to have produced better work in order for them to provide a critique of work.
By this logic, it would be necessary to paint a Mona Lisa to be an art critic, or to have written a novel in order to provide literary criticism.
All a review/criticism is, is an opinion of the reviewer/critic. Anyone can hold an opinion, regardless of qualifications or personal 'output'.
 |
True in a way, but if somone's going to criticise something, in public, with the potential to draw people away from viewing said film, and potentially lose the film maker hundreds of thousands, nay millions, of pounds in revenue, then they'd better have half a clue what the fuck they're talking about before they start flapping their gums. I don't recall Jonathan Ross having had anything ever to do with film making, story writing, directing, lighting, cinematics etc, instead he talks like a cunt and generalyl acts like a cunt on tv, so why are we supposed to revere his opinions on what makes a good film and what doesn't? I'd take an A-level media studies students' opinion over his.
Criticism on a forum, banter like, is way different, and whether you take notice of another persons opinion is up to you.
And I should have thrown in the caveat that sometimes you should ignore the consensus and watch something with a bad rating anyway because whilst 4000 people may think that "Dinocroc" is a bag of shite, one must remember that by and large, the general populous is full of utter fucking retards immersed in this years Big Brother anyway, and so their right to breed, let alone their opinions on films, should be stricken from the record.

That's where you and I differ - I'd prefer to see something and decide for myself, as opposed to taking someone else's word for it, a person who may have very different views from me.
For example, if I adhered to your ratings system, I would never have seen the marvel that is 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus', as this rated a lowly 2.5 on IMDB.
Likewise, one of the best ninja films of all time (Sakura Killers) only managed 2.9 on IMDB.
Thinking for yourself - try it.

I have seen mega shark vs giant octopus, I saw it on imdb and saw that it was one of the lowest rated so I had to see how bad it was. Also fat slags for the same reason.
It is nothing like reading a bad review, it is lots of people, sometimes hundreds of thousands so it evens out. I have never seen a film below 6 that I thought was really good.
I just had a look at Sakura killers. It was highest rated by under 18's

This shows the reality. Although to be fair, that film only has 149 votes so not exactly accurate. |

Interesting "weighted average" system they've got going. I've had a peek through some of their breakdowns, and it does seem to be doing a good job of weeding out fanboi excesses and astroturfing. If you like a poorly rated film, consider rating it 7 or 8 - it looks like 10s are just pruned out of the average score. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
