can any one help me? iv owned my 2003 typhoon now for about 6 months and its been fine, just the last month its started smoking a lot wen i start it and wen i take off its like theres not enought fuel getting through and no power then after about 10 seconds of full throttel the smoke clears up and the power comes back. its been derestriced and has a viper exhaust. also have tryed up jetting but after buying a 6mm jet the thread was rong (would not fit) so got a 5mm one and was too small. any help would be great thanks Very Happy

Take the spark plug out and see what colour it is, that'll tell you if it's jetted correctly.

The problem with power could be that the autochoke isnt working correctly. If you have a haynes manual it'll tell you how to test it.

the spark plug is dark (nearly black) and dry, also iv heard that the standard jet size is round 50-56? the jet allready on is a 72.

It sounds ok. Its most likely the choke.

It's most likely running slightly rich. Have you changed anything like the oil brand recently? If it only smokes for the 1st 100 yards then i wouldnt worry.

If the plug is dark and sooty then it's running rich, the plug should be a nice coffee colour. A main jet 20 sizes over the normal size sounds slightly excessive, maybe try a 65.

Excess smoke could be down to the oil pump needing adjusting, if thats possible on that bike. The fact thats it's running rich anyway isn't going to help the situation with the plug getting carbonised. I'd also check your airfilter is clean as a dirty one will make it even richer.

Thats because it was running far too rich and the induction filter has leaned the mixture out.

You'll still need to do a plug chop with a new plug to check what the mixture is like.

If you've fitted the filter to a standard 50cc engine you wont notice any gain in performance and you'll be using more fuel. If you wanted better fuel economy you'll need to refit the standard filter and fit a smaller jet and you wont loose any performance.
