looking at getting a scottoiler for the XT and wondering if it'd be worth me getting the high capacity touring model as i've been doing a couple of hundred miles a day regularly on it.
How many miles do you get out of a fill?
oh, and can you fill it with any old junk, like used engine oil? ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? Thats ok. I was thinking it might be 400 miles and could need doing every day on some occasions and it'd do my head in.
Might look for the touring kit so i just top it up once a week ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? Hi,
If like mine it's actually quite inaccessible (under the front seat) then the follow should give you a few ideas.

I used a fairy washing up liquid bottle, for what it's worth, the black tubing fits nicely in the top of the bottle, bit of epoxy and a hole for the air to go in and job's a good 'un!
I do happen to have a high capacity reservoir too, and my biggest complaint is you have to remove the number plate to top it up. It's also so long between top ups I forget to actually check it. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Just lost one on ebay despite bidding £22 on it.
There's no more ending for 2 days. Have to keep on spraying it with lube ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? I've got it on my watching list but would rather pay another fiver to have it arrive on my doorstep with all the pipes and bits. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? Mine lasts about 1000 miles but you can DIY a high capacity reservoir. Basically secure a bottle to your bike, fill it with oil and route the filler tube/air breather pipe from the top of the scottoiler into the bottle of oil.
i.e. the sauce bottle:

EDIT: I didn't read the above posts, I have been beaten to it. |

Tip: if you have an issue with your Scottoiler, contact their technical support department - I bought a second hand one from eGay a few years ago, it dripped a bit when the bike was standing, no matter what I did to adjust it.
I spoke to one of their tech-support chaps, and he gave me a few things to try - when these didn't fix the problem, he told me to send it up to them to look at.
They replaced about 90% of the components and shipped me back a fully working oiler......for free!

Just blagged a complete kit with high capacity touring reservoir for £35 on ebay.
Nobody else bid on it ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? I was thinking that.
The rear sprocket might be a bit open for it. It'll be hidden behind the frame somewhere and piped securely. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? Congrats on the oiler setup Marmalade
If your bike has one of those plastic chain guide thingies on the swing arm I reckon something could be added to drip oil in there somewhere - and could be made pretty robust for little effort/cost
anyway I have managed to fix my leaky issues
dunno what I did differently this time
stripped it down completely (again) , gave it all a good clean internally, gave the spring under the diaphragm a bit of a tug (lengthened it by a cm or so) popped it all back together set it up as 1 drip every 2 mins...engine off ....hey presto no more leaks
(took longer to initially prime than it usually does from empty so maybe my spring or valve had become unseated ?)
Went to the Brightonia doo today, when I came back to my bike several hours later I was pleasently surprised to see no oil had dripped (ok there was literally about 1 drip mark from under the front sprocket..but none from the rear where the dispenser nozzle sits)
Checked the levels in the reservoir when I got back and its hardly used any at all - it has dropped , but not by much
Will double check its /still/ set to roughly 1 drop every 2 mins when I get time this week
could be on target for the quoted circa 1000 miles between fill ups
Regards
