I just squirt general-purpose bicycle cable lube into the cut-out on the adjuster nut and keep pumping the lever until it moves smoothly again instead of feeling stiff and sticky. I figure the cable drags some oil with it, leaves it on the inside of the guide, comes back and picks up more as I drip it on, and so on and so forth, with gravity doing the rest.
But that's because I'm a lazy bastard
I did use the same gear oil that I do for my chain at first, but I think it's a bit too thick to make much headway down the cable run. Certainly not without being heated.
(Hmm, there's an idea ... heat up some soft wax and pour it through? The stuff you'd use on sledge runners, like...) |
