Been riding for a couple of months on my cg125.
I was coming out of the shared carpark, and turned left like I do every morning. However, this time I was going a bit too fast. I remember thinking this too. But before I could do anything, I was heading towards a couple of parked cars. As I turned left, I think the rear wheel slipped, I fell off, the bike fell and slid on. Luckily the bike didn't hit any of the parked cars.
I had all my gear on, boots, trousers, jacket, gloves, and helmet. My head didn't hit the ground. I was ok.
I went to check the bike. I picked it up, and noticed the right handlebar was bent in. I straightened it as much as I could, got back on it, and tried to start it. It wouldn't start because it was in gear. So I put it in neutral, started it up, and carried on with the drive to work!
At work, I rang a couple of garages, and then took it to one during lunchtime.
The right footpeg was also bent and had cracked. He took the footpeg section off and in straightening this, it cracked completely off. He welded it together straight, and put this back on.
He straightened the handlebars, and said it was good that the crease was coming out, and another crease wasn't being created.
The petrol tank also had a ding in it, and the paint had scraped off some of it. He said I needed to get something on it to stop it rusting. So I got him to put some grey primer on it (my bike is silver). I might put some stickers on it later to hide this, or get some matched silver spray paint and paint over it.
This cost £40.

So I've had my first crash. I'm lucky it was not with a car. Someone told me a while ago, that you will tend to have an accident when you are messing around yourself. And it was my fault as I was going faster round that turn then I normally would. It was a low-speed accident, but I've learnt my lesson! Just a finger on my right hand hurts a bit, but its getting better day by day.

I'm an official biker now!

It hasn't knocked my confidence, but made me appreciate how even a split second lapse on concentration can result in an accident.

Unlucky mate.

I have heard that primer is not the best thing to leave on without a top coat as it will absorb water and cause the metal to rust anyways..

Could be wrong on that though.

Seems you got away pretty lightly all told...

Damn man, least you are OK though. Thumbs Up

It's disheartening but it's all about learning, a minor spill now and you will remember it when you get the big bike and so not (hopefully) do that again.

That's how I looked at it when I dropped mine, twas very slow but it hurt my shins like no one's business Laughing

It's definitely better to drop your small bike than your big bike!
Least you're back up and running though. You definitely have to be aware of your speed, but you'll pick that up naturally the more you ride and when you know what your back can handle!

Hammerite is the best paint to prevent rust, or get ACF 50.

Similar outcome to the bike as me, i had been riding for about a month and came off at slow speed like you, with bent handlebars also. But it was so marginal they bent back and are fine now. How did you bend them back using just your arms? Or do you mean they just came out of line with the wheel like a pushbikee would if you came off that?

My exhaust is chrome and suffered a nasty graze, so im going to get some ACF 50 to prevent rust, plus its winter anyway so ill coat the whole bike.

Are you back to riding now? If I recall you seemed to have lost your confidence after you came off.

Yea mate i am. It took 6 days before i could ride because the bike needed a bit of work. To be honest the more i had to wait the more i started to look at it and a very small % of me was thinking should i ride it again...
But im getting on ok now, was a big boost of confidence when i took my first lesson last week and got marked 3 out of 4 on nearly everything (4 being test ready) and the instructor saying 'i'd go on a ride out with you any day', im still slow on roundabouts though.

Some perspective: £40 is about half a tank of fuel on a Mondeo. Laughing

Good for you for getting straight back on, proper job.

The right handle bar was bent a lot. I managed to bend it back just a little bit. But the guy at garage put a big pipe onto the handlebar to give him leverage, and he bent it back like that.
I think they may have also come out of line with the wheel, because when the guy was taking it for a test drive, he straightened the alignment.

What is ACF 50? I plan to ride my bike during the winter, so should I get some and spray my bike with it?
