 |
|
Been riding for a couple of months on my cg125.
I was coming out of the shared carpark, and turned left like I do every morning. However, this time I was going a bit too fast. I remember thinking this too. But before I could do anything, I was heading towards a couple of parked cars. As I turned left, I think the rear wheel slipped, I fell off, the bike fell and slid on. Luckily the bike didn't hit any of the parked cars.
I had all my gear on, boots, trousers, jacket, gloves, and helmet. My head didn't hit the ground. I was ok.
I went to check the bike. I picked it up, and noticed the right handlebar was bent in. I straightened it as much as I could, got back on it, and tried to start it. It wouldn't start because it was in gear. So I put it in neutral, started it up, and carried on with the drive to work!
At work, I rang a couple of garages, and then took it to one during lunchtime.
The right footpeg was also bent and had cracked. He took the footpeg section off and in straightening this, it cracked completely off. He welded it together straight, and put this back on.
He straightened the handlebars, and said it was good that the crease was coming out, and another crease wasn't being created.
The petrol tank also had a ding in it, and the paint had scraped off some of it. He said I needed to get something on it to stop it rusting. So I got him to put some grey primer on it (my bike is silver). I might put some stickers on it later to hide this, or get some matched silver spray paint and paint over it.
This cost £40.
So I've had my first crash. I'm lucky it was not with a car. Someone told me a while ago, that you will tend to have an accident when you are messing around yourself. And it was my fault as I was going faster round that turn then I normally would. It was a low-speed accident, but I've learnt my lesson! Just a finger on my right hand hurts a bit, but its getting better day by day.
I'm an official biker now!
It hasn't knocked my confidence, but made me appreciate how even a split second lapse on concentration can result in an accident. |

Damn man, least you are OK though.
It's disheartening but it's all about learning, a minor spill now and you will remember it when you get the big bike and so not (hopefully) do that again.
That's how I looked at it when I dropped mine, twas very slow but it hurt my shins like no one's business ____________________ My Lane Position is always AWESOME!! |

Some perspective: £40 is about half a tank of fuel on a Mondeo.
Good for you for getting straight back on, proper job. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
