Cruiser could be a dirty word on these forums
As they go they are very good, the japanese make better cruisers than the highly dangerous which have not been changed for the past 40 odd years... now, i'm going to go hide. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

I have only ridden the 650 dragstar and if I were to sum it up in one word.....Gutless.
I know they are a cruiser but when all is said and done, it is a 650 V-twin engine, I was expecting something in the way of torque if not top-speed. It had neither. It struggled to make 80mph and when I got back it had blued the headers and was smelling distinctly HOT (like scorched metal) after a short (10 mile) run at around that speed. That said, it was very comfortable and surprisingly manouverable once I was used to the feet-forwards riding position, had to take care not to touch the pegs down. I didn't really notice any jittering from the shaft drive when cornering either (but the lack of power may have been a factor in this)
I was riding a jawa 350 at that time, it seemed slow off the mark even compared to that!
From speaking to people who have owned then, the Virago is a far better bike, the dragstar is a detuned and lardier version. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
