Hi all

Currently got a pair of nakered Berik boots which are going to be no good for winter.

I've seen some which look like summer boots but say waterproof etc like 'Sidi rains' but do they keep your feet warm?

Main thing in winter is staying warm and dry, do you have any experiences on some good winter boots anything under £150.

Thanks Karma

No expert on riding gear, this is my first winter, but logically thinking you need something waterproof to keep the snow/slush/rain out and something that will also keep the wind out.

If there's no wind then your body heat will warm up the air inside your boot and you'll be fine. Thumbs Up

I don't have loads of money, so I bought myself some of these which were, well, £50+P&P as the eBay page says Laughing They've kept the feet warm so far.

Karma to stinkwheel for the idea:

Goretex lined army grade 1 surplus boots = £25
Tin of dubbin = £2.50
+
Waterproof socks = £10 (grade 1 surplus) to £25 (new Sealskinz)

You're lacking ankle protection, and that's about it. I've never been massively convinced by the usefulness of a couple of little plastic disks anyway.

As above but with regular summer boots. Dubbin or similar stuff from a horse tack place and Sealskinz... toasty.

Except gortex army boots are over £45

You might as well spend a little extra and buy proper motorcycle ones

I have Spada Waves. I paid £55. Been using them for a year now, and they've just started to leak slightly in torrential rain.

I bung a pair of sheepskin inner-sole things into my boots for the winter. Thicker socks too. Boots are already waterproof though.

Far better to wear 2 pair of thin socks as you then add a extra layer of warm air Thumbs Up

Thats great if your boots are waterproof, not so ideal if they aren't. Sealskinz thermals are supposed to keep you toasty at -35oC or something silly like that. Ideal.

I rode like this for years, and it works great.

However, I now have "proper" bike boots and in my book they're worth the extra money for just not having to do up laces any more Mr. Green

And for those who are concerned about laces on a bike, running shops sell the elasticated laces that don't have the loose hanging bits - also make stuff easier to put on/take off. Although I'm not sure how they'd hold up in an off...

Why would anyone care about laces?

FYI You are being led into a trap

That is a consideration, TBH, I sometimes just can't be arsed with the laces.

these should keep you warm dry and protected + you can walk in them as they have a proper sole.

I bought some Bullson sheltext Maddox boots from the Hein Gericke outlet on ebay for £30 - they only had the lining of one boot caught in the zipper so with a little wiggle it was out and perfectly good. Nice and warm and my feet have never been wet in them even after 2 hours on the A38 in torrential rain two years ago.

They often have a lot of crap on there but you can sometimes get a really good deal:

Two answers from me..

Not cheap.. TCX Infinity's but very good.
Cheaper idea that I used while dispatching was Gumboot/Wellingtons with thick socks as I had waterproofs on anyway.

I got my Infinitys when Oxtar was changing name to TCX for a super bargain price. They are mostly waterproof, just not when you have your leathers tucked into them and the water is trickling down the folds and creases!
