I think what annoys me the most is that I was sitting in a lecture 20 metres or so away from my bike.

It seems like such a stupid thing to steal but I can see they were trying to get at my mobile mount for some reason (I am saying that as it was moved fairly far to the left but not removed).

It was at Portsmouth University Sad

Does anyone know where I can get another one of these brace clip things from? I don't want to buy the whole handle bar set again.

Nope I don't know where to get replacements.

But in the future hammer in some ball bearings into the ends of the allen bolts to prevent this thing from happening.

LOL... wtf!?

Seriously, thats like stealing a mirror or a grip Laughing

Where did you get the bars from? Possibly ebay being the best bet. Also get yourself a £28 alarm. Will go mental when they touch the bike.

Have a look around the local bike parking spot, seems to have worked for someone else Wink.

It happens, people are getting poor and simply taking things, my dad lost a wing mirror the other day, thought it was a scrote kicking mirrors off or something. But it had been too cleanly taken off. It kind of reminds me of comedy in the 1980s where people would put a car up on bricks and steal the wheels.

Man I wish we had a law where instead of alarms we could put shaped explosive charges in stuff instead.

This isn't in the UK, but seen one of a new Focus RS or something in London in a similar state.

I always wondered why they leave the car on bricks. They don't give a shit about the owner so why dont't they loosen all the wheels off, then go round levering the car off the ground with 2 bits of wood removing them one by one then the last wheel, just leave the wood wedged under rather than leaving bricks?

Its a you have it I want it mentality. And if I take it, it won't really hurt you because you have money / insurance which will cover it. Type mentality.

Similar to how if you crash get something stolen collegues will often say its insured ain't it? And working in retail yonks ago when theives were caught they would always say whats XYZ to you. Your company is loaded.

Bentleys were being targetted at one point in London, 1st and second pic are the same car on two different occasions:

As for nicking a plastic brace bar, not convinced that the risk vs reward is worth it personally.

Suspect it's going to be a load easier with the bricks - easier to get the jack off if there's some sort of stand to hold the car up.
Also someone on PH (where the pic is from) suggested it may also help with a 'tilt sensor' - though looks a tad 'tilted' in that picture.

And yes, plenty of people want something for minimum hassle at the expense of others.
To be fair, it's pretty prevalent in society as a whole, just this sort of thing is the most extreme and personal form.

What winds me up the most is I came out and the police were doing their routine patrol through the campus - buggers must have done it ~ 30 mins after I got off the bike.

Not that I wish it upon anyone else but ffs there was a 2011 GSXR parked behind me, I drive a 1998 hornet - why is it so special?

I phoned security just to let them know and I got an "Oh I see......", seems like this is a pretty slick business to get into.

Probably think newer bikes have more security or there is a smaller market to fence your goods to.

To be fair, looks like they were stealing a specific bit because they wanted it - be it the phone holder or the brace it's self.
Either way, seems less likely that people wanting to nick a few quids worth of parts will have a brand new GSXR750!

Yup 100% sure Sad I was only working on that mobile phone mount a couple of days ago and made sure to tighten those up big time, also it stuck out enough when I came back to the bike I would have noticed it when I got off.

Get an alarmed disc lock, that will put them off. Anybody tampering or causing vibration on the bike sets them off. Mine does a warning bleep first of all then if you knock it again it sends out an ear splitting siren Laughing

Pretty understandable why they nick tires to be honest, especially with the amount they go for and you can also do say 30 cars a day if you are lucky. Sell to chop shops and you have a mighty big paycheck.

Regarding the part for your bike I'd say really unlucky is there anywhere else to park at university near say a camera..

Bentley wheels and the like are the same stud patter as VW's and are big on the euro scene, probably targets the same car as they could maybe only get one side due to the curb

Feck me, down to 2 bricks a side now... can't you tell there's been a recession!

As for the OP, maybe they wated 'that' bracket from something? given it would take an extra 30secs to get off the other one, and have the whole bar and phone bracket would they really leave both behind?
