Brake pads, how long do yours last?

So, front, back and on what bike, how long do your brake pads last?


Trying to see if my usage is normal .

ER6F, both changed for the first time at 22000 miles. Back knackered, front still had 3mm of pad left

i usually go through 2 rear sets to 1 front. not sure what distances though. If i had to guess i'd say about 7000 miles

Well I got one set from ebay and they lasted less that 3K.....
Next set are doing better @ 4 K and about 1/2 way down....

And I consider myself very gental on the brakes.

Seems my use is fairly high, but not unusual.



I've been getting 6-7k front and back.




Jim Mc - disc thickness depends on the bike, it is normally stamped onto the disc itself. Typical seems to be around 3.5mm.

Pad thickness is 1.5mm for non sintered or 1mm for sintered at the thinnest point. In practice there are wear markers cast into the pad, if you can't see them they are worn out

Well I have done about 5km and have been through two sets on my 50

Cos the bike doesn't go fast though, I get my adrenaline from braking hard

Maybe they are just shit pads or something but some people rate Goldfren high?!

I just change them every MOT regardless off what they look like so between 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

3-5k on back with a wavey and ebc HH pads
6-9 k on front using ebc HH
5k on front using ARMSTRONG HH

6-9k on the front and about 10-12k on the back.

Yeah, front brake pads, I go thru them more than back.

(although I do try to remember to brake front and back, I just tend always to be touching the front brakes cos I'm always filtering)

I invariably think "what's that odd noise" for a few weeks, then it gets worse and I think "Ohhhhhh, thats the 'brake pads noise' and I listen to it get worse and worse for a week or two (depending on how long till payday) ... and then I get round to buying some more.

Note to self, buy brake pads and clutch cable before proper winter sets in.

or about 3-5k with Armstrong soft compound pads
