Do the birds know that the other can only lie or tell the truth?

If one of the birds always lies then it cannot tell the truth. It will always lie to you.

You would ask one of the birds which door he would pick if he was the other bird.

One always tells the truth, one always lies.

Ok, so you got the easy one. Which is fairly easy.

Try God now. Laughing

I disagree, that method would not tell you which door is which.

The evil bird may want to send the good bird to hell, he may not, equally, the good bird may want to send the evil bird to heaven, or he may not.
None of these points is outlined in the original puzzle, and therefore cannot/shouldn't be assumed.
Equally, it is assuming that the one of the birds is aware of the other bird's prediliction to truth or lies.

Personally, I would ask one of the birds if it was a bird. If it replied yes, then it could be assumed to be the truthful bird, and the other bird the liar. I would then ask the lying bird which door was which, and do the opposite of his response.
If the bird replied 'no' to the 'are you a bird' question, it would be the lying bird, I would then ask the other bird which door was which and assume his response to be truthful.

That, however, is assuming that the birds are self-aware, something which is not mentioned in the riddle.

EASY SOLVED

It is correct, here is why.

If you pick the good bird (unknowingly)
Ask it which door he would pick if he was the other bird, then he would tell you the truth which is the lie from the bad bird. The answer you would get is the door to hell.

If you pick the bad bird
which door he would pick if he was the other bird, then he would say the door to hell because he lies and obviously the good bird would pick heaven.

Therefore you know which door is which now.

EASY SOLVED

God Mode:
Do you know the door to heaven? If no then it is the lying bird, if yes it is the good bird! so if you find the liar go ask the other one!

Complete fail. Re read the rules. You can only ask ONE question to ONE bird.

Your answer assumes a) that the birds know that the other lies/tells the truth.
This is not outlined in the original riddle.

Your answer also assumes that good bird wants heaven, bad bird wants hell. This is not outlined in the original riddle.

Perhaps the good bird did something terrible during his life and thinks he deserves to go to hell. Perhaps he has told the evil bird this. Does your answer still work now?

True it does assume these things, I meant to put that in my post. I think we can safely assume the birds want to go to heaven. The good bird is good, the bad bird is bad (in wanting the good bird to go to hell).

Oh, well, if we are assuming things, then I'm assuming the birds are self-aware.

I would ask one bird the following question:

If you are a bird, tell me which door is heaven, but if you are not a bird, tell me which door is hell.

The truthful bird would reply: I am a bird, door x is heaven.

The lying bird would reply: I am not a bird, door x is hell.

God mode done.

Thumbs Up

IMO there is no solution to the riddle above Easy mode - it'll be some wanky smartarse 'trick' bollocks which has no real basis.

Doesn't mean that I'm not despreate to read it tho...

God Slayer:
"Bearing in mind that you're going to be going through it first, which is the door to heaven?"

That is, of course, operating on the assumption that the bird is self-aware.

No, it's a conditional if/else statement.

Ok, so.

God slayer mode:

“Is one of the following statements true and the other false? The door on the left goes to heaven. You are a liar.”

Yes: door on the left
No: door on the right

I'm pretty sure this works and keeps within all the parameters of the riddle?

God mode:

"If there was another bird present who would always give the opposite answer to you, which door would that bird tell me led to heaven?" - then do the opposite.

Ask Lying Bird
if A is correct: Imaginary Truthful Bird says A so Lying Bird says B
if B is correct: Imaginary Truthful Bird says B so Lying Bird says A
Ask Truthful bird

God Slayer mode:

Assuming that the lying bird cannot just make stuff up (like one door goes to Leeds and the other to France) and has no understanding of the concept of decimals, and can do arithmetic, the following works.

(Pointing to either door) What do I get if I multiply the number of beaks on your face by 10 and add to it the number of Es in the name of the destination behind this door?

If answer = 11 (10*1 beak + 1 E in Hell) = truthful bird, door = Hell
If answer = 12 (10*1 beak + 2 Es in Heaven) = truthful bird, door = Heaven
If answer = any other number 1, 2, 21, 22 etc then this bird is lying about the number of beaks on its face and therefore is the lying bird. So if the number ends in a 2 that door is Hell and if the number ends in a 1 that door is heaven.
