Probably a whisker high for the tenere given that it needs re-registering. That said, if it's sound, I'd buy it if I were in the market.

Thanks, what about the vt500?

Haven't a clue! £150? If it works, it's a bargain, if not, a money pit!

id stay away from the vt500, ive owned one before and while it didnt give me too many hassels, it was an arse to get parts for, and that inboard disc is just a prick of an idea,

the xtz will hold its price quite well, i'd pay that money for it,
if i was back in the uk, id probably buy it sight unseen,

but try and knock a 100 or 2 off the price Very Happy

You must have come into some money since you could barely scrape together £600 to buy your Bros.

The impression that I'm getting is that you'll never be happy with the bike you've got, and that you'll end either stacking one or buying an epic shed because never your mind on where you are. Hmm? What you are doing.

I nearly got one 20 years ago, but went for the Africa Twin.

I think the new one is ridiculous personally. 12 grand for a Yamaha pretend trail bike? I don't get the obsession with these big trail styled bikes that will never go off road.
What I do like the look of is the XT500, I don't think they import them over here but there were plenty in Greece, at the right price new (say 3500) that would be an attractive thumper you could actually do some proper off roading on.

Having read some of your other recent threads, I'm of a mind to suggest that you get used to riding your 400 before you start the climb towards moar powah. You've had a lot of self-confessed near misses in a very short space of time.

Just a thought.

Its mostly because I like the "sitting up" style, actually. I'm not in the least bit interested in going off road, cos I'm most likely to fall off and hurt myself that way.

I just like being high up and being able to see all around me, and not have to hunch over - like on a sports bike - or get back ache like on a cruiser with highway pegs.

I'm sure there are loads of other "sitting up" type of bikes, but my XTZ750 was perfect for me in that respect: sitting upright and hooning like a nutter, in town.

Exactly how I want to ride.

How tall are you exactly? The 35 inch seat height is pretty high for me anyway.

I'm only 5'5" Laughing with short stubby legs (probably a 30" inside leg)

The guys dropped the seat for me as low as it would go, so I was on tippy toes anyway, if I had one foot flat on the ground, the other was dangling at least 6-8 inches.

Me being a fat bastard also seemed to help keep it stable, too. One time a guy who was roughly the same height as me (but probably half my weight) sat on it and he couldn't keep it balanced or get his feet on the floor.

If I had to pull up alongside police cars, I tended to keep the foot nearest them on the floor Wink ... if I was in front of them, I'd normally have put the other on the footpeg anyway Twisted Evil

Never lost control of it (except once, at a funeral when I dumped it on the ground for some odd reason) ... although I was still pretty much of a noob when I had it running.

Only two times (!!) I came across a hill-start that was too steep for me, and I had to park it up and get a guy to get up it for me. Luckily I was riding with someone else each time (rare for me, I tend to ride solitary) ... but both times (once, heavy rainstorm, post-Bulldog Bash and probably hung-over), and second at a funeral of a very dear friend) ... I like to think I was emotionally bereft on both occasions Laughing

Possibly I rode in high heel boots more often back then, than now when I ride mostly in beaten up old trainers.

Fuck it, too big for me or what, it's still the best bike I've ever owned. And still in bits in me shed Rolling Eyes

Luckily no one gives a fuck what you think.

The OP's question was about an old XTZ750, not a megabucks XT1200 / Beemer or other "adventure" type bike, or the validity of such bikes.

Well you obviously do as you took the time to reply!
To me its kind of like glitzy so-called '4x4' Porsche and BMW cars, pointless inefficient designs which will never see the dirt really and which seem to offer nothing over conventional cars other than perhaps road presence and bulk.
Personally I think the XTZ660 looks nice enough if rather expensive for what it is, though the XT500 if available in this country at the right price would be worth buying.
12k for a Yamaha 'trail bike' though? Yamaha must have lost their marbles.
