hi all
after spending the last few months rideing my bike everywhere and running the frankly terrible avon azzaros to the point of destuction i swapped them for pilot road and loved the bike all over again ........ but i knew something was missing

i realised i have got bored of its appearence as to me a bike should represent the riders personality i also wanted to make a few modifications to make it more comfortable Very Happy

i have always been drawn to matt black bikes and decided that a rat fighter would be more to my tastes
i started with this
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/185272_2272887379765_1176062775_32825547_3844310_n.jpg

i stripped all the plasics off to discover a bike than needed some TLC
it took all of ten mins to work out that the front and rear lights were mounted on their own frames this was a great thing to find out as my fighter needs to still be able to carry a pillion and getting the look i wanted was a simple case of unbolting the rear light mount frame and chucking it
The first thing i did was to to get down my local scrap mans yard and buy a load of checker alu plate for £10 this was a find fantastic as new its £60 + per square metre.
Soon as i got home i got to work makeing a tail tidey whice turned out rather nice i think

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01802.jpg

then i painted the tank and modded the bellypan and front mudguard before painting them...

following that i started hunting out a set of brackets to fit my fork i couldnt find any for less than £40 so deceided to make my own out of mild steel i borrowed a 37 mm set off a friend and copyied the design and scaled them up a little i think they turned out ok Smile and have used them to mount a cheap 7 inch headlight

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01822.jpg

after a few days trying to come up with a neat way to mount a set of high renthals i found these clamps on ebay

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01809.jpg

on arrival they were not 41 mm as advertised and were in fact 43 mm Crying or Very sad after a quick think i grabbed my grinder and cut out two 25mm wide strips of 1 mm steel plate then went to work with the rubber mallet shapeing them in to two rings they fit pefectly and shimmed it down just the right amount for a perfect fit https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01816.jpg

at this point i realised my MC to splitter brake line was a fraction too short so i set off to powerfit for some braided line and banjos ect
made a set of lines up following sickpups excellent guide i found on here Thumbs Up then got them pressure tested and fitted em i was finally able to fit my renthals and everything bolted together just fine https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/316116_2634516460266_1176062775_33170397_1722678334_n.jpg

however thats not enough i thought the bike needs something more seeing my old paintball mask gave me an idea so off went the goggles and after some cutting and zipties (greatest fastener invention since the nut n bolt Razz) this is what i had

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01841.jpg

im quite proud of it and have got loads of comment over that last week from people thinking it looks great Smile the bike is really starting to come along now and the next major work its getting is fork seal C&S kit and maybe a stiffer spring set

i know not every will get why i have done what i have done but im genuinly happy with the bike now and i dont think i will ever sell it .....its just too reliable and as my first big bike it means a lot to me

will post a better pic of the whole machine tommorow when i have better light

so come on what do you think Twisted Evil Question

Oh, an Aprillia RS streetfighter. I would love to see that. Also your Paintball mask for the light is an amazing idea, looks sick.

just a small update Smile

the bike had some fueling problems yesterday but a full carb strip and clean seems to have sorted it XD (thank fuck my local post office sells carb cleaner)

been working on my idea for the new side pannels Razz

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01805.jpg

makeing them from 6mm alu

also as the weather wasnt shit so i took some pics Razz

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01851.jpg

spilt a little oil when topping it up :/ really need to buy a sodding funnel Embarassed

https://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo256/fireyphoenix1989/motorbikes/DSC01850.jpg

the MTB speedo was a tenner from asda and works fantastic up to about 70 mph and is far more accurate than the one the bike comes with as stock at speeds below 60 which in my opinion is where you really need an accurate speedo with all the gatsos and such about (i live near blackpool which apparantly has the most bleeding speed cams in the country )

thanks for the support with build Razz i have some ideas on how im going to set up some led running lights but need the parts to arrive first Smile also need to sort out mirrors and make some sort of adaptor to fit my barends to these renthals Razz

You done a good job and it takes some skill. But to me it looks like you found a bike at a scrap yard, put a screw driver in the ignition and thought I'll ride it about. But kudos though to you.

I love the look, and love what you've done. It's really nice.

However, I don't like the side panels at all! I think they need a major redesign (well, reshape).
