PostPosted: 20:22 - 03 Dec 2011    Post subject: CBR400 Restrictor Dimensions??? Reply with quote

After spending the last few weeks looking for a VFR400 - I've not been able to find one in the condition I'd like, for a price I can afford. So after looking around the internets a little more, I realised that I also like the look for the CBR400 - and am mightily interested in those too. The problem here is that I can't seem to find any restrictors for them.

I'm not willing to ride outside the terms of the license, and so really need them. My question is to anyone who's had one of these, and restricted it. Where did you get the kit? I refuse to pay £179+ whatever to get them fitted by FI International.

Alternatively - I know this is not the "Bikes and accessories" bit - but if anyone has the restrictors for a CBR400 and is willing to sell - How much?

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I think it's bike-running related - so yeah.

Thanks, as always.

Anthony.

if someone has the measurements, just get the washers made up to suit. The restriction certificate in my mind is complete toss. Most insurers don't even ask for it. And if the police stop you then they can get it dyno'd to see if its within spec.

The only chances of getting caught is riding like a prat and the police arresting you and your bike.

I understand it may have insurance complications if you were to have a crash but if you have them fitted (even the made up ones) then its no excuse for them not to pay out.

You will know once its restricted when it starts to run out of puff after 90mph!

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping to do. I'm struggling to find any kind of information on CBR400's restrictors. Does anyone have the specs on the washers for a CBR400?

I believe porndoguk (i think that's his username, deffo is over on 400greybike) makes them for about £25, made using original washers.

Google + logic says: 35mm OD, 17mm ID, although I'd probably go for a "large" 17mm. Information is for entertainment purposes only, warranty void where prohibited.

At the risk of bringing the Wrath of Tef, I'd suggest having a look at the carbs and seeing if you can find an easy way to restrict the throttle opening. Adjust to achieve 95mph, optionally dyno[1] and/or stamp "25kW" on a bit of tin and stick it to the engine.

Aside, why a 400 rather than a 600?

[1] I think that's a waste of money given dynomaths. If you're determined to pay for a dyno printout as "proof" of restriction to give to your insurer or wave at plod then just tell the local dynoguy that you want one saying 25kW *wink* *wink*, and ask how much that'll be. It won't be the first time he's been asked, and it will prove exactly as much about the actual power of the bike as any other bit of paper. Or just print your own, for exactly the same reason.

Just purely for the styling of the bike more than anything. I just love the look of the VFR400s and CBR400s and since I'm going to be on this thing for the next two years or so, I think it's worth going through the hassle of having one restricted.

As for dyno'ing at <25kw. I don't think I'd be able to relax knowing it's not restricted as it should be. Has to be legal. It's not really about getting it printed out as proof, but again, I'd not be able to relax unless I knew it was legal. So mostly for my own piece of mind.

Thanks

Aikman666 sent me some for free to fit to my ex girlfriends bike. I'll see if I can get them back to send on, as she's ''too good at riding to be restricted'' Rolling Eyes

For the record, the ID hole isn't round.

That would be most appreciated!

the cbr400 isnt a million miles from the CB-1

https://www.hondacb1.org/forum/index.php/topic,1308.0.html

I think it may have been a tad more powerful than the cb-1 so kind of makes sense that the quoted 17mm above is a little smaller for the cbr

Have you considered a cb-1? should be a bit cheaper than a cbr and a nice bike to ride. I may well have one for sale in the new year with the restrictors pictured above fitted, let me know if you might be interested

I appreciate the offer, but heart is set on a CBR or VFR 400. It's all to do with the styling more than anything at this point.
