 |
|
Hi everyone!
I'm glad to be able to be back here after passing MOD1 and MOD2 (no minors in either!) and buying my first bike, a 2010 Hornet (600).
I've been riding it almost every day (frost and snow permitting), and when I get home I always give it a bit of a short wash with a hosepipe. Not had a go at cleaning it 'properly' yet, waiting until a weekend when I can see what I'm doing at the same time!
My question regards a rear hugger.
Do you fit one to your naked bike? I find a LOT of crud is thrown up to the rear shock and rear frame (living in the countryside does have a downside....) and this is all washed off every day.
Is it worth fitting the rear hugger? I'll be using the bike every time the temperature is above freezing and the sun is out
Thanks! |

Someone once told me that a good layer of crud can help protect a bike from nastier crud such as road salt. I live by this
Although it is most likely complete crud ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

Thanks a lot guys
I'll look into getting a spray to cover the exposed parts, and also look for a rear fender - having a black bike possibly means making it easier (slightly cheaper) to find one in that colour!

And one with yours truly on it!

I just want to find one that doesn't require too much expertise to install - still learning my way around maintenance at the moment |

Indeed, mud is better than salt.
That's why my bike is caked in the stuff. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Blooody hell that's expensive! I've seen carbon ones cheaper! Take a look on ebay there are some cheaper ones.
Fitting is super easy 10 minute job (should be anyway)
I once undid all the screws on my hugger, forgot about it and rode off Surprisingly it was still there when I got to my destination, I realised when it made a funny sound over bumps ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Plus one, two, three for the Hugger, Stenda-Fendah and the AC50.
Rinsing with a cold hose or even a bucket of water will help to break down the salt too. Even if you can't wash it.
Could you not have kept your hat on for that photograph mate?
I just coughed my elevensez into my keyboard there.
I asked why bikes sold in UK do not come with huggers as standard.
There is no answer from dealers but they must be one of the most useful mods you can fit to an bike used all year round.
Some folk are fair weather bikers so there's no need. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

Ok, ordered one in a nice black finish.
Probably be delivered this weekend and I'll have photos up when it's been installed!
I know it's early days, and I'm really loving the bike. Do you guys keep all the original parts from the bike for a resale or are they thrown away? This is because I'm going to remove the original chain guard to install the hugger.
Thanks |

When you come to sell having originals is a plus. I usually sell the originals to buy more extras ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Keep everything, throw nothing away! Throw it away and that is when you'll find you want/need it...
Also, people prefer to buy bikes looking standard rather than tarted up to your personal preferences.
+1 for that bike is too nice to ride through winter. ____________________

Well, I've managed to fit it - using a healthy dose of MTFU and a bit of Heath Robinson to attach a combination allen key to a jack arm and the bolts came free!
Pics tomorrow when it's light - and hopefully not snowing |
