Riding home tonight on the carriageways, hands got so cold on a 30 mile journey I coulda cried.
Anyone know what's best to use? Heated grips? Handguards? combination of both?
I'm open to ideas for now. I ride a gs500 if it helps...

My heated grips kept my hands toasty on my way to work this morning, and I only wear summer gloves
Though when the weather gets a few degrees worse I may use some glove liner types ____________________ Current Ride: Daytona 600 |

Heated grips, hand guards plus fleece liners under normal gloves. Mind you, I only had heated grips in recent years, the rest of the time I just manned up. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

There are solutions, but more effective solution = more money. The best effect for the lowest cost is handlebar muffs. The biggest problem you face is wind chill, these combat wind chill very effectively. Do a search on here for them, there are a few threads with posts from people that know a lot more about them.

As for handguards, like MX style things, they will do very little to stop the wind which will simply go around them! Heated grips might help to an extent but the problem is they heat the bottom, and your hands are freezing from the top. Heated motorbike gloves would work, but then you are talking a fair wad of money for a decent pair that work well. |

yeah cheers. Didnt really want bar muffs. I'll have to try layering up more! I was wearing thermals and a thin jumper underneath but I'll try and put more stuff on! Hopefully it'll shift the heat to my hands. |

Whats all this "manning up" everyone is talking about.
Riding when your hands are going numb is plain dangerous. MTFU is not advice. ____________________ Current Ride: Daytona 600 |

The ones saying MTFU just ride for five minutes obvs. I was riding for 4 hours today. So i think i have a right to complain about cold hands. |

I’m 100% with the Tucano Urbano posse.
Been using the neoprene ones on my daily 60 mile round trip with the thinnest of ventilated summer gloves with great success. Warm, dry, comfortable.
I had a two day test ride on a CBF1000 with heated grips a few weeks ago and they were relatively effective, but not up to the standard of the muffs. The heated grips make the grips too fat for my liking. You’d probably acclimatise to it, but I felt it detracted from my control of the machine. The ability to use thin summer gloves with the muffs is full of win for me. I always hated the lack of feeling from fat, bulky winter gloves and, despite spending a fortune on them, never found a pair that was any use once the temperature approached freezing.
Maybe thin, Gore-Tex lined heated gloves would hit the spot, but unless someone makes them and charges under £40 I’ll be sticking to with the muffs.

This point of view is where the MTFU statements need to be directed! I’ll keep my homosexual muffs while you vain, image obsessed “men”go home and cry about your cold little pinkies. Jesus wept! ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

I only do 10 miles each way to/from work now.
Last night I noticed a big differnce with the temp.
Frozen hands getting home. As im still in 'summer gloves' I put a couple of 'petty garage plastic gloves' underneath mine - dose help.
Im stingy tho |
