 |
|
I am wondering if there is anywhere i can ride a 600 legally without full licence. i have provis and CBT and I'm currently riding a 125 but recently got a ninja 6 to do up for my 21st in July. it didn't take anywhere near as long as i thought and most of the work is done now so I'm itching to have a go to see how it rides and up my confidence for DAS. Unfortunately I'm too sensible to risk my life and licence riding it on the roads so is there anywhere i could go to ride it legally. without mot tax insurance licence etc like just pay a one off fee and play on a track for a day. most of the ones i have seen need full licence or competition licence. are there any private ones or whatever? |

Without the licence, tax, mot or insurance your options are sorely limited...
Most, if not all the track days I've looked at usually ask for a full licence before letting you out on track. So your option may be limited to riding on private land? ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Quiet industrial estate within walking distance failing that just be patient I'm afraid would be my advice, the benefits of living near a huge abandoned pit heap with most of the old concrete road intact is something I take for granted. ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 & 91 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 Some Bike Pics...

Kind of convoluted, but...
Pass your tests now on your 125. £121.50 of which £31 is the theory that you won't have to resit.
Ding! You now have an A license with a 25kW limit.
Buy 4 washers for a few £££, drill 20mm holes in them, insert in inlets, ding, 25kW.
Get insurance. Swinton, for example, don't distinguish between restricted and unrestricted A, and don't ask to see a copy of your license. It's quite true to say that you have an A license, and it's quite legal to ride your Ninja on it if it's <= 25kW.
Ride!
When you hit 21, pass 'Accelerated Access' (essentially just the DAS test under a different name), maybe saving yourself a day's training or so, more than the cost of getting your restricted A license. You may even get away with doing the tests on your own bike. It's supposed to be 35kW+, but if they don't ask, you don't tell.

i have been thinking about this but it would cost a lot more in the long run. plus its only a 7 month wait and restricting a ninja to 33bhp would be like having Jessica alba with no face. kinda ruins the ride. i think i know a guy who knows a guy with a track. something to work on. |

To be honest I doubt it would cost a lot more in the long run.
Roger said the cost of the A2 Test and if you need to do a theory there is that too, plus the cost of restriction which if is done with washers in the carb is next to nothing, then once you pass that you have seven long months to gain experience riding, then when you are 21 pay for one day of training then your test.
If you wait until you are 21, you'll have to do training on the centre's bike plus the test on their bike and depending on your training requirement that can cost anywhere from £200-£600 if not more!
If I were you I'd do the A2 then the Accelerated Access as there is literally no-where you can use your motorcycle apart from private land you or someone who gives you permission to use it owns and riding a bike on a track is a heck of a lot different from riding on the road and you'll likely pick up a lot of bad habits in doing so.
Do a day of training on a 125cc + both modules and theory if you need it, seven months of practice, then a day of training if you feel you need it + your accelerated access, I'd expect it to be cheaper in the long run really, plus you get more experience on your motorcycle and you get on it sooner!
Hope that helps. ! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

How so? It might actually save you some, if you sit your Accelerated Access on your own "35kW+" bike, with the appropriate amount of winking.

I thought you were in a hurry to ride it?

At the moment you're banging Susan Boyle, so you might want to consider your grounds for being picky. It's probably not an ideal bike to restrict, but it's still going to get to around 100mph, be a lot more capable than your 125, plus you ditch the L plates and can take pillion candy. What's not to like about that for a net cost of £91 including the washers? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
