So after going out on a ride sunday and getting bogging i decided to wash the ktm when i got back and since today its been sitting in the garage...

I took the bike out for a spin and all of a sudden it starts bogging and spluttering when accelerating,so i thought wtf and managed to ride the bike home....

Since then ive....

.Cleaned air filter

.Cleaned the carb out twice

.Checked the plug looks all good

.Sprayed all the leads and ht lead with (WD40)

.Cussed alot and smoked all my fags Mad

Im really confused it ticks over fine dosent smoke revs freely, pulls fine untill its ready to hit the power band and then it bogs, splutters and if i kept the throttle open whilst it was spluttering it would just start dying its really got me stumped

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

Scott Thumbs Up

To me it sounds like a fuel supply problem, but as you've cleaned the carb it shouldnt be that. Is there a fuel filter, and is the fuel cap vent hole clear?

You don't sound like someone who'd fail to check the oil, but symptoms match...

I've had the same symptoms for a couple of causes - just recently my fiat did it due to low oil, my old fiesta for the same reason (but I usually stalled it before then). Previously my pulsar did it for about 30 mins before I ran out of fuel due to a misreading digital guage, glad I had reserve...

Let us know what it was in the end.

Hi

It doesn't sound like water in the engine to me. Water in the engine would be spat out rapidly, or just stop the engine turning over at all. Water in the fuel or carb is possible although I would expect it to screw up just off idle rather than once the revs were up plus you have cleaned the carb out already.

Water in the ignition is a possibility. Might be worth taking off the ignition cover from the engine and checking it is dry in there.

However to me the main guess would be the kill switch and ignition switch wiring. Presume it is a fairly crude ignition system and the kill switch works by earthing the coil. A dodgy contact in there can start to short out and earth the ignition. A quick check would be to disconnect the wiring that is used to earth the coil and then take it for a spin (stopping the engine afterwards is the fun bit).

All the best

Keith
