Bike not running properly when it rains heavy !!!!!!

My 1996 honda cg125, It's happened to me twice. It's raining heavy and it after 3 miles it starts to lack in power then if I rev up it sounds like its coughing and back fires loudly I assume water is getting in somewhere but don't no where, or it's something todo with the wiring maybe, the first time this happened it was hammering it down and I went through a puddle than ended up the size of a small pond :-/. It ran ok but it's like it didn't have enough power to move only to run. I left it for a day tried to kick it but nothing so bumped it and started first time and ran fine!??!. Second time was tonight in the pointing rain it started to cough as I call it then started to loose power so pulled over reved it abit and every rev it back fired so turned it off and started pushing home :-/ 2 miles down the road dripping wet I kicked started it and it started and I reved it rite up and a huge bang with 2foot flame out the exhaust and rode home was abit juddery, can anyone help me? Oh and when it's not raining it runs fine. Also water might be getting in through my petrol cap not sure tho but if anyone can help I would be most thankfull Smile

I'd go electrical, and I'd start with the sidestand switch. WD-40 and grease it, plus any connector blocks on its wiring route that could be exposed to the elements.

Runnning in is what you do to a new engine and means keeping the revs down low for a low period. It doesn't sound like you're having an issue with this but are instead experiencing an electrical issue resulting in power loss and back firing due to unburnt fuel.

My money'd be on the HT cable/plug getting a soaking. Check it all seats right and then smear a load of vaseline around the join between the plug cap and the cable.

Mine did exactly the same a few months ago, and it turned out to be water getting into the plugs. That plus my battery was on it's way out...

Do what multijoy said and maybe get yourself a can of Damp Start. Seemed to work for me.

Carry a small can of WD40 or similar, when It starts running rough next time pull into a bus shelter or garage forecourt & spray the WD40 over your plug lead as far up as you can & take the cap off & squirt into the cap.
If the magic fix occurs have a think on how you can water proof your electrics more permanently in future.

The problem is clearly a bent subframe, fix that and the rest will be fine.

I've got no idea though, but my RR7 struggles if it's been out in really really heavy rain, i think it's because the air intake is right on the end of the nose.

Same problem here Honda CB250W. Will check the connections in the morning, any moist in there is getting banished for good.
