I've just received my k&n filter for my Cbr...

I've been told by someone I can't just bung it in because the carbs wont run right with more air and that if I wanted to use the k&n it would need to be dynojetted??

Is this true, i thought k&n filters were a direct replacement that didn't need any extra work??

Will run lean, carbs need rejetting to allow more fuel. Why did you want a k&n airfilter?

Its the clamp on K&Ns that you have to re-jet for. These clamp onto your carbs and do away with the air box.

If you're just replacing the filter in your air box with a K&N it wont need to be re-jetted.

Depends how much more air the new filter lets in compared to stock, just do a plug chop to make sure.

I like the idea of not needing to buy a new filter every service... The filter in my air box is goosed, it's so clogged it could of been solid!

I was told by the place i bought it said that it shouldn't effect the way the engine runs... You get a baffle to replace the o rings

Those pod filters are a PITA unless set up perfectly.

You don't need to replace the filter in your air box every service, just clean it.

You'll need to upjet. Tried a K&N on my 05 CBR...went back to stock.

Very very lean running when its attached and not jetted.
Must mention though I had a full Venom system and was jetted standard.

If you mostly pootle around the jets can be left alone as they only come on song after 1/2 throttle, or is it 3/4's ??
Bung it in, go for a slow ride, if the engine doesn't seem right get back home quick (ride slow !!)
Have a look at the plugs after a slow ride, if the mixture seems fine then get the engine warm & go for a short thrash & take your plug spanner with you for a looksie.
Look at your plugs before though to make it obvious if anything has changed.

So leave the fairings and front indicators off and go for a ride? Laughing

OP, just put the stock filter on, there is no advantage to a K&N despite what anyone has told you. It's a 125, it will last far longer if you leave it stock.

Check the oil also..and the filter. CBR's have a nice habit of eating their cams/bearings.

It's a 600, but I'm not the most technical person in the world... I'll just take it out and clean it!

What's the best way to clean my current dock filter that looks like something a cat coughed up

My apologies, thick as shit Laughing

Your current filter, best thing to do is replace like for like, unsure if your bike is fuel injection or not... if its carbed I'd not bother with an uprated filter unless you get the bike set up to do so.

Wemoto or ebay are probably the cheapest place for these.

Sorry for the blind post... should read sigs more often Laughing

If you run a 52 plate CBR600 (as per your sig) then it's fuel injected and thus doesn't have carbs so the advice in this thread is pretty meaningless with regards to plug chops and whatever.

If you want to get it set up properly you'll need a Power Commander III and an afternoon on the dyno. Should also get rid of the snatchiness that early FI Hondas are known for. It's a bit pricey though.

Alternatively you could just bung it in and get a dyno run done for £30 or so, then you'll be able to see if it's fuelling dangerously lean anywhere.

It's an f3... But stood in a showroom for a year and a half before it was registered...

Hence the 52 plate

If it's an F3 it's been stood in the showroom for more like 4-5 years, given they stopped making them in 1998. Thumbs Up
