 Posted: 12:26 - 24 Dec 2011 Post subject: 240V Wiring Help Needed |
 |
|
I decided to service the extractor fan in my kitchen as it was caked in 15 years worth of gunge from loads of fry-ups etc and I'm having a problem remembering where the wiring went. I wrote down which wires went into the connecter block but there seems to be a wire that I didn't note. In the picture, the motor isn't present but it has 3 wires - a black wire with spade which connects to whatever the component is at the bottom then two more wires without connecters that must have gone into the connecter block - an earth, and another black.
On the bottom row of the connecter block, I noted the following before removing:-
From L to R; RED, BLACK & BLUE, (2 wires), Earth, Brown
The white wire coming from the top is obviously from the wall socket and the switch has two speeds.
Any help would be appreciated as it's going to get pretty smoky in there tmrw. I've looked online but can only find an external wiring diagram. Fan is a Greenwood Airvac S200 b2.

thanks Villers, heres a better pic, I know the red and brown wires were where they are now, it's that small blue wire that threw me, I wasn't sure if it was that one or the blue from the mains that was connected with the black wire in the connecter block.

When I put it together yesterday, the fuse whent POP! I had the blue from the mains connected opposite the red wire at the bottom. Not sure if I wired it up wrong or the fuse went due to some water on the motor from cleaning the impeller I've had the motor on the radiator all night to dry out so maybe I'll just try the same configuration again with fingers crossed, ____________________ Space Is Deep |

For future reference: take some pictures before taking stuff apart if you're not 100% sure of what you're doing.
240v cock-ups can be fatal or very burn-house-downy so a high degree of paranoia is advisable.
'Friad I can't help further than that; just hope it doesn't get too smokey when you try again (electricity runs on smoke - if you let the smoke out of the wires, it all stops working.....) ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

If you go here mate: https://www.bizflips.com/library/pdf/GREENWOOD/GREENWOOD%20AIRVAC/GREENWOOD%20-%20GW_GA1_2004_3.pdf
Then go to page 111 of the PDF, it has the wiring diagram for your fan....
EDIT: In fact I've just attached it, hope it helps... all Dutch to me ____________________ "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." Hunter S Thompson

Sorry for the late reply - just been down to Brighton to pick R Kid up
Them letters - L1 L2, earth sign, etc are on a plate that I didn't even notice until it fell off when I removed the connecter block so it could be back the wrong way - if you see what I mean. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Page 9 has the external wiring diagrams.... you have the list of how the internal side was wired, so you just need to know how the fan is swtiched and find the right external diagram. Looks like the 3 wire ones don't use either L1 or L2 (assuming your is on pull cord, not L2 - so, brown to L1, blue to N, earth to earth, L2 (high speed AFAICS) not connected). ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>
