CBR600FW brake light

Hi

Noticed today after a ride that it appears the microswitch in the brake lever up front has gone intermittent - works on occasion but then doesn't every so often, or lights the brake light for a split second before it goes out again.

Connections all seem to be tight and clean. Would this point towards a dodgy switch and how difficult is it to replace / come by a replacement part?

I'd try giving it a good spray inside the switch with something like electrical contact cleaner first.

In my experience the switch is very easy to change for bikes I have done this on.

They are often fairly generic parts that can be picked up from most bike shops. They can usually be bought cheaper via the internet but with post this time of year, delivery times will be unpredictable.

Test voltage both sides of the switch, one will normally be 0 and other 12 ish.
If you remove the cables from the switch and touch them to each other and the light comes on each time it is definately the switch.

For the price of a switch I usually changed them rather then attempt to get them working as they inevitably die from time to time through age and wear.

I had a dodgy rear brake light switch which needed replacing and I kept putting it off. Eventually it shorted out and melted while it was stood with the ignition switched on.
