Hi guys

May be a stupid question but i guess if you dont ask you never know. I was doing the valve clearances today on a suzuki gsx750f that i inherited from a mate. Anyhow, the valve cover was a motherf**ker to get off and out of the frame due to its close proximity to the carbs and me not wanting to take the carbs off. Having finally managed it - albeit a bit violently - there appears to be some small bits of grit or sediment around the valves and cams etc... Im wondering whether maybe this happened as a result of me manhandling the cover off a bit enthusaistically and disturbing some dirt that was on the cover/frame etc...

The question is, is a few small specs of dirt and grit cause for concern or can i just put the cover back on and forget all about it?

Most likely no, but if you can get it out, then do.

If it's an old bike then it could be build up from age. Remove as much of it as you can, then flush the engine. remove the sump plate and clean any crud out from it, check the oil strainer is free from crud as well. Give it a new oil filter and fresh oil (change after 500 miles - there will be leftover flush in the engine that will dilute your oil)
