What one would you choose and why?
I`ve looked at the Kawasaki in my local dealers showroom, and it looks like a great bit of kit as a pocket rocket for journeys that would not be to big in the milage department.
However for a big lump like me it looks like it`s just to small .
I had seen a couple of the Hyosung GTR`s (250) over the summer and thought that they seemed like good bikes.
Bigger than the Kawasaki is a plus point in my book.
Both are distgustingly expensive for what they are? ... unless you know different?
What do you lot think? ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

I tried the Ninja and it was quite fun, but needed big wristfulls of revving to make progress. It is small, which is how I like 'em. But the value for money proposition just isn't there, it's nearly as much as an SV650 new and used asking prices tend towards the extreme.
The Hyosung is a much bigger bike - essentially it's a GS500 frame - and would suit a lardier more Epic rider. But it's 28.5hp, rather than 33, so performance is going to be "commuter" rather than "fun". Prices are more realistic, but you have to be able to find one that's been looked after.
Personally I went for an impulse purchase of a GPz 305, which performs much like the Ninja but with a bit more lazy torque, plus the added thrill of wondering when the engine will eat itself or the £200 rubber band snap. But if I had the sense I'd been born with, I'd have restricted any of the 500 twins and got a lot more bike for the money. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Oi, I said "Epic"!
I'm really enjoying my '305, but I honestly couldn't recommend one in good conscience because of the ticking timebombs of the oil filter and the drive belt. If it wasn't for those, it would be a modern classic, but does have them, and so sadly it isn't. I suspect the few still in service will be ridden until they properly assplode, and then get parted or scrapped. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Bit late here, but I own the remains of a hyo gt250r after i had an altercation with a fallen tree.
I found the power acceptable - it was certainly quick in comparison to most cars but obviously it's not a 600!
Initially it felt quite twitchy in the corners until I bought a set of pilot road 2s for it. After that it was a different bike, the weight no longer mattered as much in the corners and I got to the point where I was toe downing on roundabouts. I loved the fact that you could ride it hard everywhere and still not be in license losing territory, sure it'll only do 107ish and 0-60 (with an exhaust upgrade and rejet) was around 7s but it just seemed more fun to me to be able to rag it everywhere rather than constantly keeping the bike in check as I would on a bigger bike.
Despite the fact that I could go out tomorrow and get myself a ducati 848 or a tvr tuscan (only about £12k now which surprised me!) I love smaller bikes & cars - I have a smart roadster & a fiat 500 (original) and have only ever ridden +250cc bikes when I've hired them. All because roads are limited and the fun factor comes from pushing, not holding back. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750
