Morning folks.

The engine died a death on my ZZR250 so I bought a replacement lump, seemed more sensible than buying a new bike since this one's only recently been reinsured, mot'd and tax'd!

Anyway.

This new engine arrives, and I notice a few stress cracks around the rocker cover.

No biggy, I'll just swap the rocker cover with the one off my dead engine, I thought.

Then, after removing the rocker cover on the new-to-me engine, I noticed a tappet just sat there in the middle, between the spark plug holes. Loose.

Now, that's not right. Is there any way I can remedy this? Something's telling me it's not supposed to come off like that.

TL;DR, found my ass a tappet flying around the inside of the cylinder head, what do?

Cheers guys.

Steve.

Pictures would help.

Tappet should screw into the rocker arm and have a locking nut.

By tappet I'm guessing you meant the adjuster and not the arm. If so find out where it's from, which arm is missing one?. Make sure you set it right then turn the engine over manually to make sure everything is okay. Before using it drain any old oil and remove the sump, check the gunk in the bottom of the plate for metal filings. Re assemble then put in fresh oil and manually turn the engine over again before starting it.

Good point, you need to find the locking nut if its not on the tappet.

First thing should be to take photos and make the seller aware of the problem.

thanks for your input guys. I've given up trying to figure out how to mend it, and have just decided to down tools and let the seller know... see thread in DABCF.

Cheers again,

Steve
