Posted: 19:01 - 16 Jan 2012 Post subject: MOT Certificate(s) - Pass and Fail. Both in my hand. |
 |
|
Dropped the bike off for it's MOT on Saturday and went to pick it up tonight. I made sure they aligned the rear wheel and adjusted the rear brake light for me as these were issues I couldn't be bothered dealing with.
Anyway, I've just been to pick it up and the guy tells me it's passed, but with some advisories. Namely being the front suspension is slightly bent. They took it out for a test ride and deemed it okay and not to adversely effect the bike.
After a little bit of rustling about, trying to find the paperwork, he tears off three pieces of paper, which I didn't look at - just shoved them in my bag and set off home. I've just looked at them now, and I'm confused.
1. Is the Invoice for the work and for the MOT.
2. Is my "MOT Test Certificate"
3. Is my "Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate"
He explicitly told me it passed, and I appear to have the paperwork to prove it. So why do I have the failure too?
The only difference between the two sheets is the failure one has a "Reason for refusal" section, which says - "001 Rear reflector on motorcycle missing [1.4.1]. I was under the impression that the rear brake light casing was considered a reflector?
Has someone failed me the first time, and realised that I DO have the reflector and had to issue me a pass?
-------------------------------------------
The other advisories I've got are ;
1 Rear Mono-shock pivot worn but not excessive.
2 Front Roller brake test indicates slight fluctuation of brake effort
3 Rear Roller brake test indicates slight fluctuation of brake effort
4 Front suspension has slight stiffness in the movement of the suspension
5 Front suspension assembly is slightly bent
6 Front wheel alignment slightly misaligned.
Are any of these a real problem ?
Thanks! ____________________ Ted : "Maybe he's agoraphobic."

They took your bike out for a test ride on an MOT....?
If they did that to mine I'd be rather pissed.
I'd sort the suspension and brakes firstly. |

I've not had a problem with the brakes, seem fine to me, braking fine and all that and I've not had a problem with the suspension either, doesn't feel stiff to me, but I'm basing that on nothing really.
They rode it, yeah, but I'm not concerned with that, they wanted to check it was not a problem, and when I asked him what he thinks I should do about it, he said "I shouldn't think it'll be a problem" - So I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing.
Wanting to sell the thing anyway. ____________________ Ted : "Maybe he's agoraphobic."

Ok LISTEN..... You have been told more than once on this thread that the rear brake casing is NOT a reflector.
Stop bloody going on about the bloody brake casing, buy a reflector from the pound shop and stick it on your plate and ask take the bike back. Unless you have a pass certificate to hand the bike has failed. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

Could always get a MOT status check and MOT history check from the DVLA and see what it says? ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

Same thing happened for my car - it failed on the wipers so mechanic replaced them then passed it. I got both fail and pass certificates with same time on them. 2nd MOT didn't cost me anything.
Was there definately a reflector there in the first place? He maybe failed it then stuck the reflector on to pass it.
Seems a bit daft to issue a failed certificate cos it took a matter of seconds to fix it - one reason might be that the garage has pass/fail stats to reach.
No point in shredding the failed cert, it will show up on the MOT history anyhow https://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECSID-Internet-Status-Request.jsp ____________________ I started out with nothing and I still got most of it left. |

Simple one this , the tester has actually done YOU a favour and failed it due to no reflector then stuck one on (at a guess) and passed it.
what he could have done is failed it and made you provide one and then maybe wait until he had time for a retest.
Both times I have taken my bikes for mot he has nipped off down the road on it (no lid or anything )
only to make sure the brakes work and it rides straight tho he says lol.
as long as you have the pass cert and all the details are right on it then don't worry about it. ____________________ Hyosung cruise 125(passed test on, sold) Kawasaki el 252 (better than expected but sold on) Kawasaki GPZ500S first "big"bike.(sold) ZZR600 E5..Z750 2007,ER5, currently on a 2008 Enfield bullet electra x and loving it..

There are well known examples of the YTS boy writing off 'exotic' cars on MOT test drives... It happens. If you don't want someone to test ride your bike, then I suggest you watch the MOT being done. It is perfectly legal for you to stand and watch. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

From what I've been told, VOSA question garages that have a very high pass rate. They probably failed your bike on what they could, then passed it straight afterwards to make them look more stringent. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles.
