Seen quite a few alarms on ebay.

mainly this one
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=25643&item=7922441998&rd=1

and even this one
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36796&item=7919046651&rd=1

Anyone got one or anythign like it??

All i really need is a tilt switch that make the alarm go off if the bikes moved like 5 degrees but for £24 i think its not worth bothering making one??

I was also looking at both of the above alarms and wondering about quality etc.

I quite like the look of the Cheetah and was tempted to bid on one the other day, but the very cheap price put me off. Confused

Remote start is good. You wire the alarm into the loom and can even remove the ignition barrel. It can only be started with the right fob (Apparently). Damn good unless you've got a decent immobiliser.

Yeah, once it's removed you're fine. AFAIK most of them come with immobilisers too, so you can't just stick your key and start without the alarm being turned off.
From what I've read before they wire into the ignition from the barrel, and from the starter button.

Thing is you have to make sure the alarm doesnt sap your battery power. Some of them can, pretty quickley. Crying or Very sad

I dont know much about alarms though, just from what ive heard about bike alarms.

So if you had an Optimate III and you regularly plugged that in for a charge every now and then, it'd be alrite? Eh?

This remote start sounding like a bad idea to me

i could press the button and just ride off?

Normally alarm at least you would have to put the keys in take steering lock off, dis-arm alarm and then start the bike. Question

For £25 I want one...

How easy/hard are they to fit? Someone tell me how good they are, becuause i dont want to get one, and realise its rubbish and its a waste of time.

Also is it still easy enough to jump start the bike with one of those gizmos attached? Eh?

Recon i could get one and fit it in 1 week, before i go to Uni? I could do with one there. Im crap at electrics. Surprised

I'd just like to point something out, although these alarms are cheap, they offer no reduction in insurance premiums as non of them in this hread are Thatcham Approved or SoldSecure Approved.

I would spend that little bit extra and get a brand I know well like meta or Datatool and have that piece of mind that it is insurance approved, and it will knock a few quid off my insurance and set my mind at rest.

For the reduction in insurance it would get me to have an approved alarm it hardly matters? only pay £200 so i only want it for peice of mind/alert ME to someone playing with my bike as i sleep above it.

Claud, can have a mass alarm fitting day around here if ya like mate Thumbs Up if we get some in time lol

Edit of Demonic69 beat me to it , lol Look at his picture his hands moving, never noticed that Very Happy

Hmmm, they look very interesting. At £25 though, it does seem a little cheap. I guess reliability is the question here, has anyone run any of the alarms mentioned here for any length of time?

talking to the person on ebay about teh first one and he says

Quote:

the alarm is operated by shock sensitive sensor. The engine lock works through the ingnition switch, once the bike is violated the ignition locks the engine from being started. Not certain of the exact drain specs, but I know that it is very minimal, never had a problem with any customer's battery going dead cause of my alarm system.

i would prefer something thats a little more impressive my self?? i though they monitored Battery voltage to see if its being fiddled with and had a tilt sensor and things?

you will find that remote start on alarms generally works by starting the bike up, but you cannot drive off until you put the key in the barrel and turn the ignition on..

Yeah and usually you need a bit of gas to start the engine (mine does all the time), Or choke now its getting cold. So completly useless. Laughing as you'd have to walk up to it anyway.

Yeah if i get one, some help for you Smoto would be useful. Probably not for a while now, as im off in a week. Dance!

Not enough time... to get and fit.

Usually with alarms, you pay cheap you get cheap, crap, so i dont think they will be so good. Cheap alarms give you hassle.

I was tempted by one if I'm going to be using an electric start bike to get to work.

The idea being that five minutes before I go I can start the bike from my (upstairs) office window, so it's nicely warmed up when I get there. I would just leave the choke on when I left the bike, to make sure it would start.

In the words of Lee Evans...

"I don't know if you saw what I just did there... I acually started my bike before I physically acually got there."

Little bit extra? £200 for an approved or £25 for a non approved. I'd go with the non approved and save the £175, they do nothing to your insurance anyway. Take's about £10 off your premium.

An alarm's only really any good if you are in earshot, everybody else will just keep on walking by as RiDe proved.
