I have been looking at a CBR600f, probably from around 97/98.

A friend, who is a shortarse and rides a Hornet, swears that they are the same chassis and hence the CBR will be far too small for me (I'm around 6ft).

I wasn't aware that the CBR and Hornet were particularly related other than being based on the same engine.

They share the same engine thats it.

The Hornet has a box section spine frame which is as weak as cheese.

While the CBR has a twin spar frame:

Yep, different chassis.

But ride a Hornet for yourself and see how YOU like it! Forget what your mate thinks!

Also, the engine is the same as the CBR600Fs, but its been de-tuned to the tune of 15-20bhp. For a quick and easy mod for more power, might be worth dropping a decent CBR600F engine in there without anyone knowing Wink I know a guy who has got one like that for trackdays and he beats LOTS of people on wayyyy more modern and wayyyy more powerful bikes in the advanced group on a trackday!

dont talk shit . the cbr has more power because it has biger carbs and a 'ram air' system and difefrent cams a cbr lump in a hornet wont be much more bhp than just putting cams in a hornet as the cbr carbs wont fit

I suspect your mate is thinking of the new hornet/cbr600f which are indeed very similar sans the plastics.

I knew straight away when reading this post that someone from the nest would be along to put things right.

Engine is pretty much it bar a few superficial things.

I ride a 2001 CBR, I'm 6ft and I fit it fine.

The newest Hornet and newest CBR are basically the same bike with and without some fairings, perhaps he is confused.

I'm 6ft and have owned a 97 and ridden a 2001, both of which I fitted on fine too. They're not exactly a small bike.

Well I'm sorry mate but he's fitted it all to his hornet and ive seen the results. Call it bullshit - call it what you like, i know what hes done to his hornet and I've seen it perform!

And i know that...hence why I said he's put a whole lump from a same-year cbr600f in it - he hasn't just changed a couple of bits on his hornet lump!

On another note, i am not from the 'nest'. Hornets are still great bikes and i'd be tempted to buy one as standard. The only thing that gets me is that i prefer the Fazer 600 of the same year

The changes made to "detune" the motor are relatively small. Small carbs, PAIR system, different cams, different exhaust, and a lower compression ratio that's about it.

BSD of Peterboro built a Hornet with 100 odd bhp still with the Hornet engine.

There's certainly no need to drop a completely new engine in. Change the head over for a CBR600F unit, including cams and carbs and you're most of the way there. The difference between the two engines is also only around 10bhp in any case.

Also "destroying" riders on trackdays isn't particularly impressive, and certainly isn't down to the super awesome engine he has. I could run middle fast group pace on a Hornet 6 with a stock motor and I'm slow.

I'm 6ft and have had a few Hornets with no issues.

It's more the lack of space for the airbox than anything to be honest.

Has 370Steve still got the 600RR tail unit on that bike?

Also apparently pistons from an early Fireblade can be made to fit into the Hornet lump. Twisted Evil
