Sorry to hear about your problems mate.

You may thinking that benefits etc is ‘sponging’ but in the situation you’re in there doesn’t seem like there are many other alternatives apart from biting the bullet and signing on. At least you will be receiving some money to get you by, whilst your job hunting.

Don’t you have any friends or relatives you can stay with whilst you get yourself back on track?

When life throws you a shitty hand and you’re at rock bottom, things can only get better Thumbs Up

Whereas I have some sympathy with your situation.. Why is it you are so reliant on your father ?

You are an adult, and I expect him to treat you like one. He's got his life and he's getting on with it. If you want some milk for your coffee, go and buy some its about 50 p a pint. If you're on the bones of your arse like you say, then sell something (I've had to do it in the past).

Where are you looking for work ? Are you willing to take anything ?

Inset generic' kids of today expecting the world to owe them a living' comment.

If times are hard then you take whatever job is going even if it's stacking shelves, washing up plates in a pub etc

Years ago, when i was made redundant, i got a job cleaning toilets. It was shit, literally, but paid the bills until i got offered a job in the trade i'd already been in for a few years.

Could be worth contacting the citizens advice bereau to see if they can advise/steer you on the right path

Stop bitching like a girl and get signed on.

I worked full time since I was 16, paid tax from 18 and the two times since then (now 23) I've had to sign on I dont see it as sponging, I see it as claiming back some of my heard earned that's normally paid to scum in society that also 'can't be assed to get a job' so piss it away on the dole.

Insurance > dole office.

There is no other way.

As for your dad, tell him what you think, maybe he'll respect you more and stop classing you as the whiney little bitch you act like?

Your mum left for a reason, she thinks you're adult enough to cope, so prove it.

Your dad can get out and find a woman so why can't you?
Have you thought of offering this chick's mum a couple of quid while you're under her feet? and why is the chick happy to let you stay?

I agree with the rest, get yourself on Job Seekers and ease the burden a little bit. Then find work and go from there. Life can be crap but you gotta make sure you don't get caught in a rut, always make progress on your situation, even if it's a slow process.

Are you saying you didnt bother getting a seasonal job over xmas?

Get off your arse and sign on, at least they will check to see if you are trying to find something.

22 years paying into the system, only signed on in the last year as can no longer work, its there when you need it and you need some income to live. Your dad doesnt get enough to support both of you.

Parents splitting up mums already left the house so living here with just my dad at the moment.

You don't like your mum, so you should be happy.

Dads recently lost his job and spends all his money he gets traveling 60 miles to his new gfs then 60 miles back the next day.

Good for him, at least he has found some happiness.

My work has dissapeared and i have £0.00 income.

Many people in your situation. Be proactive. Work is out there, you have to go get it.

Theres next to no food in the cupboards no milk for coffee Sad and dad won't even go shopping because he has no money to, yet he can go see his new gf every day.

Drink black coffee. Or sign up to get access to free money.

My insurance is due soon and i can't pay it.

If you have no work and no money to spend, you don't need to go anywhere that isn't in walking/cycling distance, so leave it uninsured for now (or on a laid up policy).

Dads giving the house to my mum in 2 weeks so im left with live here with her who i hate or live with my dad in his new house that will be the same as it is now.

Again, sign on for the free money and do some shopping/help out.

Ive been trying to find work but can't get anything at the moment.

It's out there. It may not be what you want to do, and it may be badly paid but the interwebz is full of job advertisements. Anything you can do cash in hand? Building sites/farms/scrap yards etc sometimes need an extra set of hands which like to be paid in cash.

Am i just being a needy little bitch by moaning because my dad wont go shopping because he spends his cash on seeing his gf instead?

Yes.

Ye i should probably move out but finding a place is going to be so difficult with no money and i don't want to go sign on and sponge off the government.

Solves an awful lot of your "I have no money" issues this one does.

When dads here he makes a load of mess and leaves dirty plates and such in the sink then i get moaned at to clean them up.

Apart from job hunting, BCF and wanking yourself in to a filthy mess all day every day, what else are you doing? The house should be bloody mint. Your dad wiped your arse for the first few years, and kept you for the next 16 years or more. Give something back to him.

Just getting so stressed out with all this shit at the moment.

Relax, find something to do to take your mind of it. Keep busy job hunting and cleaning the house.

A few of my thoughts there for you Thumbs Up

striking out alone is a daunting prospect but once you've done it you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Start by improving your outlook and getting a handle on your emotions. They say that when you hit rock bottom (which you haven't, yet) the only way is up and that is the direction you should be looking.

Your parents clearly have their own issues - you need to start seriously working for your own good and discount any thought of reliance on them. Your dad is engrossed in his own business, and is happy to move away from familiar surroundings so there's a message in there for - if you do go with him he's going to drag you down. You say you hate your mother - I have no comment on that but since you say you are 'left with her' as an option it at least means a roof over your head so if your differences really are n't reconcilable, rather than hating her for whatever things have passed, consider her dispassionately - as a landlady - set yourself apart, follow the house rules and pay your set amount and the deal stops there. You'll only need to do this until you've saved for a deposit.

Sort out your work. You're young, have no permanent ties or dependants, so that means you can pretty much go anywhere and do anything. You'll be surprised at how many people will be impressed by you just walking in the door and stating that you're looking for a job. I did that once, the guy looked me up and down and said 'when can you start'. I said I only need time to phone the wife then I'm all yours and that's what happened. Of course you have to follow it up by turning up every day, on time, working steadily and leaving your phone in your pocket but you'll find out very quickly if you fit or not.

Don't mess about or you'll be left in the doldrums. If you have no work and no money the one thing you have no shortage of is time, so make a conscious decision to get out there and start doing something with it.

You can't move out until you have a job, but if you sign on, you can buy your own food.

Hopefully you will get a job, and then you can move out even if its just into a shared house.

Stay positive
Get a job... there are loads of slave-labour type jobs that no one wants to do, perfect for someone in your situation even just till you find something else, beggars can't be choosers
Life throws shit at you every once in a while, telling people online how much it's getting you down won't do SHIT

When you sign on, they help and encourage you to find a job, go for it Thumbs Up

Also be nice to your Dad, wash his fucking dishes, he's just split up with his wife he's probably going through a breakdown Thumbs Down

bit of a long one this .......

i was in a worse situation than you at 18 mate
i had nothing and no one
my mother is a drug addict and wants nothing to do with me
my dad walked out on me when i was a kid
(tried him contacting the prick aint interested)

i was homeless jobless and lived 40 miles from my nearest relative who has since passed away
on top of everything i was trying to complete a joinery coarse whick i was then kicked off for medical safety reasons (i collapsed in class due to mental exaustion caused by a blood pressure related migraine)

i turned my life around in many ways
FIRST i got myself booked in to a hostel it was shit and it was full of smack heads BUT it was roof over my head
SECOND i signed on i needed money to live off
THIRD i registered with benardos as a youth in bad circumstaces
they gave me a huge amount of help that i can never repay with housing me in shared acomedation then finding me a flat and such
and finally i had some part time work sorted out .

swampy wrote:

This is an attitude many have and it REALLY pisses me off .
people say well get a job as a shelf stacker or a dish washer or whatever .......show me somewhere thats hiring and i will take it !

im currently unemployed and even my job adviser at the jobcentre says there is no work atm the nearest i got offered was 16 hours a week at an asda thats 40 miles away i would spend more in fuel to get to work than i would be making there !

The work available in my area all needs experience .....i cant get that as no one is hiring at all i cant work for free as i need something to live on
and i cant go back to collage as i cant afford it

the thing i can give you advice on.............

if your unemployed and under 25 i think the ONLY thing that might get you out of the rut is the princes trust .
the courses they run can help you get work or back in to education im meeting a job centre adviser next friday and the aim is too get me on the next coarse to get some basic useful experience/qualifications towards my CV and if im lucky a grant so i can go back to college

THERE IS HELP TO BE FOUND
you just need to look for it Thumbs Up

i seriously HTH you as i know what its like to be in the gutter (litterally) Embarassed

Sell your bike. From what I gather, they're deathtraps anyway.

Then stop bitching.

Then get a job.

Your a bloke. Stop acting like a bird. Go on mums.com if you want a shoulder to cry on.

I, like many others on here, left home when we were teenagers because staying at home wasn't an option.

Pfft go sign on, you need it. If you don't want to "sponge" just make sure your pro-active about getting a job once signed on.

I know at least two people that literally live off Job Seekers and Child Benefits (and have done for years), they're the real sponges mate.

No shame in applying for JSA and benefits. The shame is in abusing it and freeloading off the state.

If you're using it to keep a roof over your head and food in the cupboard whilst finding work then that is what it's there for and don't think any reasonable person would deny you that.

Go and look for any kind of job you can though, end of the day, money is money no matter what job you're earning it from. It shouldn't be too hard to find a job if you're prepared to put hard work in.
