Hi chaps, I decided the other day to purchase a good little bike to do my test on as my dt125 is too feisty and could cause me problems.
This Derbi mull cafe is a real nice bike it pulls along in 6th gear really nice and will rush me along at over 75 mph.
It is great on fuel and very pleasent to drive.
The bike has one fault, it seems to hate low revs - now power under 3k to speak off but above this it flies along.
I paid £1200 for the bike which has done 3k miles and came with a full service history.
The front brake has to be the most effective I have ever used and would if asked do a "stoppy"
Only wear to be seen it the cylinder barrel is a little rusty outside and needs a little heat paint .
2008 year, full mot and tax, new pads all round and chain and sprocket set- one lady owner from new.

Has been messed with before I got it and it likes to lift the front end far too easy.
It Is now my field bike.
On the mod 1 it would have been a nightmare to keep the front down in the speed up and swerve test.
I dont want to mess up and must pass my test at all costs, should have bloody done it years ago blah!.

I have no trouble keeping the front down on a 750 at full chat in 1st Laughing

Either way that Derbi will do 70 max, 65 probably genuine speed.

DT would have walked you through the Mod 1, 2nd gear. Thumbs Up

It is that bad as soon as it goes over 5k it just bloody tries to come up, and having to gun the bike in second on that flipping swerve avoid thing could cause problems.
Not being noobie as having ridden 250's on a l plate many moons ago I can tell you its a real pig to hold down in the lower gears.
I could up the front sprocket to counter this but I am enjoying the doctile handling of the derbi and think this is the best choice for the test.
I would hate to fail because the front came up and the instructor thinks WTF. Laughing

If you can't keep the front down on a 125 then you probably should fail IMO...

Woah, woah, woah. You're talking about a full 14.6bhp, water-cooled, twin-cam engine there, my friend, not some poxy little 11bhp air-cooled. My old Derbi easily indicated 80mph and I'm a not-so sprightly 6'4", 13.5st human parachute. If the OP is a little fella he'll get near the real 75mph he's claiming.

I would more like on the dt.
I am not taking any chances to pass my test this year due to the new rules coming in.
Plus I have just had a capsular release operation on my shoulder and need a more doctile bike atm.
My mod 1 is Friday, will let you know how I get on.

There is only one problem in the MOD1, and that is getting your speed up to get through the speed trap, on a low powered 125.

That is why the MOD1 is more difficult on a weedy bike, than it is on a big bike.

That is why they dropped the necessary speed by 2mph last year, lots of peeps bikes simply didn't have the power to accelerate out of the curve quickly enough.

I went through the speed trap at 38... got told to do it again slower, so it shouldn't be an issue for anyone Laughing

Were you on a low powered 125?

I passed my tests first time, But I had a slow bike, I absolutely gunned the throttle coming out of the curve, but was only just over the necessary speed.

I think my bike only had 8.5KW.

The OP's bikes both have more than enough power to make the speed.

For whatever reasons you bought it, I think it looks class and its nice to see that style of bike!

Still don't get the problems with MOD1, I had to slow myself down when coming round the bend on my tatty CG, still went through at 40 and 35 mph for each exercise!
