If the skirt clears the crank then 3mm more on the skirt wont make a difference.

The problem comes if the longer skirt reduces the clearance to the crank webs to the point where it hits the crankshaft. Install the piston onto the con-rod and turn the engine over by hand. If it doesn't hit the crank, then it will work ok.

This is the problem with buying pattern parts - they aren't always the same as the standard parts in some ways. They usually work fine though.

If the piston you have bought off eBay is for a CLR125 then it will probably fit ok. If it doesn't then send it back.

What is 3mm bigger? Gudgeon pin to crown or gudgoen pin to edge of skirt?

If it's bigger from pin to crown don't try to fit it - you'll mash up your valves perhaps worse.

... and send the other one back to where it came from for a full refund - they've sent you a part that doesn't even fit your bike.

:karma: absolutely right, send it back and get proper one.

if piston sits 3mm higher then it will most probably hit the cylinder head, mangle plug and valves. compression height.

compression ratio would be effected if piston cleared.....but suspect valve may well crash with piston.

it may have been possible to fit head with out camshaft ( or rockers maybe ) so that the engine could be rotated to see if everything clears, but what about revs.....

the right thing to do is get correct piston and your money back for the incorrect one.yuo are protected by law

some pics would be nice......

fitted it and roatated engine and all seems fine no friction etc goes nice and smoothly no knocks etc would it be safe to put back in frame and start it up in peoples opinion and also i split the gasket where the barrel meets the bottom end where the cam chain goes through is that an issue could i put some liquid gasket in place as its not on the barrel part and only cam chain

I'm somewhat confused, did you send it back for the right one, or just it anyway, knowing that it's the wrong part for your bike?

I think he did the latter.

Since you've already gone that far you may as well just fire it up. Whats the worst that could happen?
